I am looking to do a sale over the xmas holiday
not sure to do a 'sale' or do a discount code to use
I read somewhere that eg item priced at £10 - do a sale at 20% - it shows the item with a strike through and £8 on searches
do a discount code and the listing itself when its clicked on shows the £8 if you use a code
my main concern though is what am I charged feed on in either situation - am I charged fees on what the customer actually pays on either ie only on £8 - or am I charged fees on the £10 even though the item is on sale or discounted ? - I read that some people were getting charged on the original listing price both on normal sales fees AND on promoted listing fees
I have searched through all the fees blurb and cant find an actual answer to this - can anyone give advice here ?
thanks in advance - Mark

Having run several sales events over the last few years I believe you pay fees only on the discounted price and not the 'normal' pre sale price.

I'm not 100% sure on the discount code fee but I am willing to bet a couple quid that you've been reading where people have mentioned the coupon codes from eBay, those are the co-founded coupons and say you're item is £100 with the coupon its £80 but you get fee's on the full £100 and when you look at your sold items it shows £100 then eBay send you a bill for the 8% they fund.
I'm pretty sure if you do a code you see the price after the code in your sold items so you *should* be charged the fee on that price.
For whats best thats a *bleep*s shoot, it all depends on your customers and items you sell. I always think the discount is best though as it highlights the new price more, for me coupon codes should always be sent out in the newsletter and not made public on the listing, save that for a sale discount or whatever its called.
