Given the fact that eBay have now revoked the right for sellers to offer a cash on collection option when listing items for sale, even if you decide to include the Collection In Person option in the listing, it may just be easier to ask the buyer to pay via eBay Checkout and then either issue a partial refund for the postage costs, or wait until the buyer collects the item in person and refund the postage costs in cash.  Either way, the buyer will get the postage fees refunded, as there will be no need for him/her to pay postage costs for the item if he/she is going to collect the item in person.

If the buyer subsequently opened an "item not received" case you would lose the case by default as you would not be able to provide the requisite tracking.

If the buyer hasn't actually purchased the item yet the best thing to do is edit the listing and add "Free collection in person" as an option in the delivery section.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

Your missing the point.

Unless you have the option for collection on your listing, then the buyer can claim none receipt and get a refund, because you won't be able to prove that you sent it to them.

So you must add the option of collection on the listing.  The buyer they needs to provide some sort of code I believe when collecting.  I've not done it myself.

Please, for your own sake, take heed of 4_bathroom's comments.

If your buyer has paid to have it delivered, you will leave yourself open to a very common scam. They can collect the item then claim they never received it. You won’t have a leg to stand on, because you would not be able to prove the item was delivered. eBay will not accept any written/signed/photographic evidence of collection. You’d need proof of tracked delivery: nothing else will do.

If you go ahead as planned, you stand to lose both the money and the item. This is entirely your own risk.

No option on listing either so basically I still need to go through with the sale so I'm gonna get into trouble surley the buyer knew it wasn't on the listing as free

@4_bathrooms makes a very good point.  If you don't have a Collection In Person option on the listing and you just leave it as it is and allow the buyer to make payment for the item then not only could the buyer open a false Item Not Received case against you and get a total refund of the money paid as a result of the fact that you would have no way of being able to provide tracking details to prove that the item was posted to his/her address and get the case closed in your favour, but you would also end up with a defect on your selling account as a result of eBay closing the case in the buyer's favour and forcing a refund.

In light of the above if the buyer hasn't paid yet revise the listing as advised and add a Collection In Person option to the listing, then ask the buyer to select the Collection In Person option when making payment for the item.  That way you can get around the problem of the tracking number, as you will not need to provide a tracking number in the event that that buyer selects the Collection In Person option.

Even if the buyer isn't out to scam you and doesn't end up opening a case against you, it will take longer for you to get the money from the sale if you just let the buyer pay for the item via the postage option that a buyer would use if the item was to be posted to his/her address, as eBay require tracking that shows that the item has actually been delivered before releasing the payment.  Without tracking to show that the item has been posted you would have to mark the item up manually as having been despatched, as you would not have a tracking number which would automatically trigger the Item Despatched function once entered.  However, if you revise the listing and add the Collection In Person option to it before the buyer pays for the item you can avoid all this palaver.

Has the buyer paid for the item yet?  If the answer is "No" do as has already been advised and revise the listing so that the buyer has a Collection In Person option to use when making payment.  If, on the other hand, the buyer has already paid, then you are going to have to hope that the buyer is genuine and isn't out to scam you.

In the event that the buyer paid before you could add a Collection In Person option to the listing follow the advice that I gave in the last paragraph of my previous reply on this thread - ie:  mark the item up manually as having been despatched once the buyer has collected the item.  Due to the absence of a tracking number you will end up having to wait for a longer period of time before eBay release the money from the sale, but so long as the buyer doesn't open a case against you the money should be released to you eventually, albeit not as soon as it would have been had you included a Collection In Person option on the listing.

If you can't add collection because of a bid, then I would stick to the terms of the listing and post it using tracked postage.

I have to agree with pretty much everyone else here.

If you are unable to change it, then you need to post it via the original method.

Unless the item is of such a low value, that it won't bother you to get a defect and lose the money if you have dodgy buyer.
