Hi Everyone,
As above, Buyer Purchases Item, Buyer States Not As Described, Item Is Exactly As Described and was a Sealed Item, Ebay takes Buyer Side and allows the return, Seriously this is just pure money grabbing, the buyer has Zero, Zilch, Zarda, feedback and states my item is not pure brass this is a cooker socket which you can see from my listings, All item specifics are clearly displayed complete with a picture of the item, these items cannot be made out of pure brass as they will tarnish, I have sold these myself but believe the buyer was trying it on.
I have used eBay for 20 years + and CANNOT believe they would take a buyer with zero feedback against someone with a high eBay profile, He has LIED by stating the items are not as described but eBay believe him over my complete listing. I have now received the item back but has been opened with the clear packaging removed so I now not classed as new (How do I deal with this situation)
If this behavior keeps going I am afraid I have no choice but to reduce my listings as I cannot keep losing money to line eBay's pocket.
Many Thanks

Sadly they do not care a Jot about sellers ,just the money and shareholders money grabbing ,the no fees for Private sellers was to get more sellers on board ,then hit them with this hold onto your money for weeks ,then introduce a buyers fee ,I suggest looking somewhere else I have now .

I would guess that you are actually referring to one of your listings that calls them "polished brass".
If so, then to be quite honest, I would expect the item to be made from brass as well.
Whereas, what I think you actually mean, is a brass look finish.
The two cooker brass fittings that you currently have listed, have the material as either Brass, or polished brass. Nowhere in them do I see it stating that it's not Brass, but some other material.
So if so, then I actually believe that Ebay is correct in this case and allowing the customer the not as described return.
Not having a go, and not meaning offence here. Just looking at what you have listed.

I want to offer sympathy - the emotion when you've done everything right, really gets to me and is such a time sync. Particularly when its an item you've sold many of without issue.
I also want to play devils advocate, a bit, and challenge the process you're going through.
Ebay takes Buyer Side and allows the return
Being a business means the buyer can return. That's UK law, but I know that you know that and offer returns on your listings.
Is the issue eBay have issued the buyer a return label at your expense? This one is infuriating, buyer avoiding change of mind return costs because they didn't bother reading the title/ specifics/ description.
If this is the case you can report the buyer from the refund window during the return process - the reason is fraudulent use of returns. Item was as described. A percentage of the return labels eBay issue get refunded at eBays expense, not all, and I don't get enough to work out the exact formula of how it works!
I have now received the item back but has been opened with the clear packaging removed so I now not classed as new (How do I deal with this situation)
The returns process is quite clear that buyers must return items carefully packaged in original condition sent. If its not potentially you can do a partial refund:
It's the buyer's responsibility to make sure that the item is returned in the same condition, and ensure that it's packed properly and protected during delivery. If the item is returned used or damaged, you may qualify to deduct an amount from the buyer's refund to cover the loss in the item's value.
I did this once - in a not dissimilar circumstance to yourself. I was really frustrated with a particular buyers damage to an item that was sent out new perfect. I can't remember exactly how I did it but did go onto chat to get walked through the process.
Sometimes I run the numbers and think is my time/ frustration really worth it for the few pounds out my pocket. Other times its not about the few pounds, its about not feeling like a doormat. From a business finance perspective these things are fortunately really rare so the cost is just another overhead that gets built into my numbers.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with this one.
The buyer has every right to open and inspect the item when receiving it.
So just because packaging is opened and therefore not in the exact original condition, does not mean that they have done anything wrong.
The fact that it can then no longer be sold as brand new is immaterial. It is their right to do so.
