Business Seller Banner

i Woke up this morning to be greeted by e Bright orange banner at the top of my eBay store, which appears to link to a article they posted on the 1st, except I'm sure that the pictured paragraph was not there before.

Is eBay listening to us?

Maybe pigs do fly who would have thought?

eBay has been around for many years. All the changes in the last 1-2 years have gone down badly. The buyer's fee will never be accepted by the existing buyers' base. There are so many other things they could do instead of trying to be like Vinted!

Interesting times to come and in the meantime, I will spread to as many other platforms as I can!

People have had a knee jerk reaction to the "buyer fee"!

I guarantee it will not be buyers premiums or similar

It will be an optional fee like Amazon Prime for buyers who want free or fast delivery or some other "benefits"

eBay would kill their sales if they start charging any sort of buyer commission. People have grabbed onto something that will never happen and turned it into a monster.

Fast, flexible support with Seller Clinics

Eligible business sellers can now take advantage of free Seller Clinics to give you easy access to growth support when you need it. Simply book a phone call appointment and you’ll be paired with a Marketplace Advisor who can offer you personalised advice on how to pay more in fees and see no difference in sales

Clinics where they will tell you to drop your prices below those of people trading on private accounts in order to "become competitive" or make sales! 🤣

Re: Business Seller Banner

What other benefits could eBay offer though? postage is already down to the seller so unless you think eBay are going to extend the dpd labels to all (what they currently use for AG items) but still it doesnt make the dispatch any faster or anything like that, Amazon can do prime as they hold the items and have the media side eBay dont have either of these. There is nothing eBay can offer that doesnt depend on the seller that I can think of.

Re: Business Seller Banner

That's what they plan to do in addition to the "small buyer fee" that will be introduced at the beginning of 2025, the way Vinted does.

I can't see what exactly they plan to offer for a subscription fee. It's not like they can guarantee next-day delivery or free postage, nor do they sell anything themselves, never mind streaming services.

I just don't know why are they trying to copy other platforms, it's really sad to watch once great and loved platform self-destruct!

Re: Business Seller Banner

I think sellers would not be so disgruntled if they thought that eBay were doing something to help small sellers. Maybe they could have a tier system similar to the shop levels. Based on turnover so small sellers would have low fees but once they reached a certain level of sales they would step up to the next level at slightly higher fees with the largest sellers paying the highest fees.  We have a tax system like this so why not implement on ebay

im not suggesting that eBay give business sellers free fees but I think there are so many small sellers out there who would welcome lower fees. It seems to me that they dangle this carrot to increase sales by paying more and more

Re: Business Seller Banner

There is no way that I'll use off site ads - you pay per click, trying to attract buyers to your listings for ebay to present your potential buyers with goodness knows how many competitor's listings. Doesn't work for me.

Re: Business Seller Banner

It is nice to see something being done. And things are being done, perhaps not as much as we would like but I've seen tonnes of private accounts now set up as businesses due to the long needed action.

What I think it interesting to consider is what would have been done had we, the community, not been pushing and pushing this. My guess would be pretty much nothing.

Re: Business Seller Banner

Correct me if i'm Wrong, But i believe private account can advertise their product's in the same way we can,

The best solution to this problem in the short term would be to remove the ability to advertise from private accounts,

Going from the sentiment in the forums private sellers hate eBay fees with a passion and i doubt they use advertising, However I'm sure without a doubt those abusing the system do due to the vast increase in sales with them.

If they removed the ability to advertise on private accounts, you would restrict the ability of "bad actors" to sell vast quantity of goods, either forcing them off the platform or into compliance, you wouldn't effect genuine private sellers at all as i think most don't use this feature, and genuine business sellers would benefit from a increase in trade as their products take the advertised spots "bad actors" once occupied.

IMO This solution doesn't harm anyone on eBay except those harming eBay(Business sellers acting under private accounts), it doesn't harm eBay as those who decide to comply when they see their sales decline will start paying fees as a business and those who don't are not paying fees as is currently, and the ad spots in the most part should be taken up by genuine businesses.

Re: Business Seller Banner

Forgot to mention in my previous post

Plus for eBay it would have the pseudo effect of addressing the issue since those accounts would be less visible, so even if they don't address the issue it would be less visible to us
