i Woke up this morning to be greeted by e Bright orange banner at the top of my eBay store, which appears to link to a article they posted on the 1st, except I'm sure that the pictured paragraph was not there before.
Is eBay listening to us?
Maybe pigs do fly who would have thought?

Saw that yesterday evening suggesting I use promoted listings. I let them know what a stupid banner it is.

Weasily words only!
They say this so it looks as if they are doing something but what they actually do is a different matter.

Firstly I wish they would stop with this constant hounding to pay more fees to them for less service
Secondly highlighting it in yellow is insulting Like we can't read unless it's highlighted
thirdly. I was watching. A sky channel yesterday whilst packing some parcels and every advert break had the most annoying eBay advert trying to attract private sellers. If they spent more money protecting sellers and making selling just a little bit more attractive for those sellers who abide by the rules Then everyone would be happy. I really think everyone has the message by now. You would have had to be under a rock not to have heard the news

@theprettybits I dont get that green one.
Why would I bring any buyers I get off-site to eBay and then pay 20-30% for the pleasure of doing so. Etsy do the same thing. At least they have a link where you can get 4% back on fees if they buy using that.
Assuming I did, all that would happen is I get the buyer to my listing only for them to see it cheaper on one of the 50 other sellers advertising on my listing and lose both the sale and customer.

Had something similar.
Sent fb, as I can't afford to promote anymore.
Given my extreme external site views yesterday, some tinkering going on?

If I was going to do a PPC, I would do it for my website, not spend here just to have the prospective buyer lured away by one of the many ads plastered all over my listings.
I did accept an offer some time ago and was thinking of trying it here but it's so clunky, it wasn't even worth using their coupon so I never actually had a PPC on eBay.
I was paying for dynamic ads, but a week ago, I downgraded my shop, removed 60% of my listings, and turned the PL rate down to the minimum. I have no plans to invest more time and money here until eBay takes action against businesses trading on private accounts.

I suppose that is slightly helpful, but private accounts get to sell all clothes, including new ones, for free, and presumably beyond the end of the year.

Promoted off site ads have gone down like a lead balloom........ as anyone with any experience / expertise would / should have expected.

This is how eBay decided that letting all private accounts sell for free was a great idea, sadly they wont release the figures but hopefully they expand this to all business sellers in the future. I'd rather they just charge a smaller amount for everyone, fix the site and police it tbh.

5% final value fees across the board would have been the best option imho.
Sellers shouldn't expect to sell for free however once ebay created a scenario where many do it causes all sorts of issues. In the end I think they will have to go to free final value fees for all and hope to make it back on more sales from promoted listings.
They have created all of this when it didn't need to happen.
Two things are very obvious, they are in a panic and the UK platform is clearly not doing very well.

Exactly! Level the playing field, decide on a strategy, and stick to it!
At the moment they are throwing anything at the wall and waiting to see what will stick! This is rather alarming coming from a large experienced company. It feels like they've lost it completely!
Alienating the business sellers was the worst mistake.

Once they decided to give offers every 2 weeks you knew it was going downhill. Its like SCS or dominos, nobody buys at full price surely as theres always offers somewhere.
It feels like they are stuck on the idea of a buyers fee, they kind of do it for authentication and it works but thats for an actual service, no idea how they will sell it when somebody is buying a stamp of a wing mirror for a car. For me its always better to charge the seller, we can build it into our prices and the buyer knows exactly how much an item is going to cost when they click on it. The site just needs to be simple for people buying on it, fix the bugs, have the price as it is and it would be a success, the seller side can have charges, promo's and everything else as a business we can work to understand it, but mainly get the bugs fixed and have a working site.

I tried it for a month sales fell

Eligible business sellers can now take advantage of free Seller Clinics to give you easy access to growth support when you need it. Simply book a phone call appointment and you’ll be paired with a Marketplace Advisor who can offer you personalised advice on how to pay more in fees and see no difference in sales

eBay has been around for many years. All the changes in the last 1-2 years have gone down badly. The buyer's fee will never be accepted by the existing buyers' base. There are so many other things they could do instead of trying to be like Vinted!
Interesting times to come and in the meantime, I will spread to as many other platforms as I can!

If you read it carefully, there is nothing new about 'false claim' protection. Then the 1-1 'marketplace expert' support is driven to increase eBay's profit by increasing your marketing spend and time involved - they call it a 'sale growth'. Finally, all that private seller bit is just empty words as usual. Endless examples here, and this is not likely to change - speaking from 18-year experience. The bottom line is eBay have been losing their marketshare on behalf of other marketplaces and independent website hence they had to act.

Yet, apparently, unless a private seller turns over more than £10,000 (or sells toys for under 3s) they won't be forcing anyone to move to business!!
