BE WARNED UPS HIDDEN BROKERAGE CHARGES!!!!!!!!!!

Be warned UPS (Useless Postal Services) are ripping US customers off with hidden extra import cost's calling the charges brokerage charges which is just simply a total rip-off ,also be warned now that our POST OFFICE are not posting to the US but now accepting parcels on the behalf of UPS and ebays trying to push people towards using UPS so please check out alternative postal couriers if possible as this is going to effect sales!!! , so now I am getting a lot of cancellations due to these hidden cost's which is a nightmare!!!

So i am now using Ebays own Global Shipping Programme thus putting any postal issues or concerns posting outside the UK on to them to sort out, this is all a bit unfortunate as it will certainly impact oversea's sales to the USA ,but I just want to warn fellow sellers of yet another nightmare to contend with on Ebay

Re: BE WARNED UPS HIDDEN BROKERAGE CHARGES!!!!!!!!!!

Can you give other Sellers an example of the amount of these brokerage charges please? So we know what to expect.

I still remember my first EU purchase during lockdown. A value of about £120 came with a bill for £80. It was the Wild West back then and the EU seller's advice was pay it or they may destroy the package! I paid it and queried with the courier afterward but never did get a logical breakdown of the charges. As they say, lessons were learned. 🙄

Re: BE WARNED UPS HIDDEN BROKERAGE CHARGES!!!!!!!!!!

I am using royal mail to send large letters and small parcels to the US using the new PDDP system and so far I havnt heard or seen any problems and buyers havnt had any surprise charges on delivery, I tried hermes international service which is a cloked parcels2go service, I set all the emails to my own email addreses and not the buyers, I was supposed to get an invoice for the tarrifs and duty but never got one, the parcel hung a few days on arrival in the US probably because of labor day then they put it into the speedx network and it was delivered on time and no tarrifs to pay.

UPS (United Parcel Service) are an entirely separate entity to USPS (United States Postal Service). UPS are a courier so their brokerage charges are likely any applicable state imposed taxes, Trump's tariff and their administration charge for clearing the item through customs.

Postal means anything you can send via Royal Mail, i.e. anything that is Letter, Large Letter or Small Parcel size. I remember in a much earlier announcement (that I rather inconveniently can't find right now) that Trump wanted anything Letter or Large Letter sized that was sent through the international postal system to be treated as a Small Parcel if it required a customs declaration (CN22/CN23).

In any case the Post Office counter you are using should not be insisting you send the item via UPS if the item is Small Parcel size or smaller. That is, unless you are not prepared to pay the tariff plus 50p that Royal Mail requires under PDDP.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

Who delivered the item?

VAT: £24

Duty: £0 (value under £135)

All carriers (including Royal Mail) charge a handling fee when they are responsible for collecting VAT and/or customs duty. Royal Mail's handling fee is £8.00 so unless you purchased something that was also subject to excise duty (i.e. alcohol or tobacco) a £56 handling charge would have been quite excessive.

Can you confirm that you are sending Large letters via PDDP. My understanding was that PDDP did not cover Large Letters. It certainly wasn't available the other day using RM OBA linked to Click & Drop.

Re: BE WARNED UPS HIDDEN BROKERAGE CHARGES!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, Yes royal mail large letters to the USA, they are on the PDDP royal mail system to buy online, during the label purchase sequence, the tarrif calcualtion comes after you fill out the customs information that creates the CN22 customs label, the tarrif cost is not refundable so if the buyer cancels we lose the tarrif cost,  its also worth checking if its cheaper to send a large letter as a small parcel to certain countries as sometimes its cheaper to say a large letter is a small parcel by a few pence, small parcels are routed differently to large letters and takes about a day longer to arrive.
