So I got offered a very paltry sum for one of my items which obviously I declined. So the reply from the potential buyer was SYBAU. The buyer was Austrian and I really thought at first he was saying basically ok.
This morning I thought I would google to see what it meant. You do learn something new every day….
Im old enough not to be shocked… but thought ok not really acceptable. So looked at submitting a report but the disclaimer at the bottom says that under some circumstances eBay may disclose the person who submitted the report. What is that about. Who wants potential comeback from the reported person..

Slang like that doesn’t make any sense to me.
I hope you have blocked them.
As a business seller I agree with you, given your business contact details are viewable I wouldn’t have gone any further with the report either.

It's all to do with freedom of information.
But it's unlikely that they will get to find out who complained.
Aside from which, why worry about it when they are literally on the other side of the world.

I received really bad abuse once from someone on this site which sat with me for a very long time. What does living in a different country have to do with it. When did it stop anyone.

Everyday a new slang term appears and I’m none the wiser. Lol. Yes that’s the problem when your business seller details are view able

The concern was potential comeback from the person.
So that comeback is very unlikely if they live a few thousand miles away do you not think?
Of do you really think that it's likely that they will jump on a plane to have a go at you?
I was not addressing the affect it had with that statement, so I would suggest that you go read the query and my response once again, as you are assuming an awful lot!

Did you really write..”do you think it’s likely that they are going to jump on a plane to have a go”….. The mind boggles…

Yes I did. that's sarcasm, which you obviously don't understand.
Again, you are ignoring the point that was being made.

Please sign me up for your “ Understanding sarcasm course”. I’m sure you can teach me well….😜

So a buyer is undeniably rude to you and you come to the forum and be rude people who offered help....

Yes, you are right. Their sarcasm always comes across as rude…

Just report the buyer message and add them to the blocked bidder list.

Thankyou. Yes have blocked them but my concern was in my initial post that your identity could be disclosed to the person you were reporting.

I suspect it is the reporting user's eBay ID that might be reported. eBay can't disclose personal information unnecessarily as doing so would put them in breach of the Data Protection Act and the General Data Protection Regulation.

All I can offer is to say that maybe in future save yourself some time and hassle by being a bit more intolerant yourself. By that I mean, I never see the profit from a sale being worth more than the peace of mind from hassle avoided. Whenever anyone sends me a daft offer or a daft message; I don't even decline it, I never engage with them in any form at all, I just block them immediately in case they buy anyway and leave less than positive feedback because I ignored getting drawn into a pointless interaction in the first place.
Personally, I think maintaining 100% positive feedback is worth turning away a least 1% of possible customers, I don't want their money if my red lights go off at first contact and I value my time and peace of mind more than a few quid here and there.

Yes this particular item has drawn in a few unusual characters and have ignored some..I never have this hassle with my normal stuff.
The point I was trying to make in my initial post was when submitting a report against the persons abuse there was a disclaimer at the bottom that your identity may be disclosed to that person…so made me hesitant in reporting it

That does seem to require a bit of justification, if you have time tomorrow afternoon perhaps ask on the live chat for them to explain why they feel a need for that disclaimer?
