After yesterday's glut of replies, thrilled to get anything today.

Jeff kindly signed my 4x6 Doctor Who photo and index card, plus sent a note on small greeting card.

its a good idea nigel,going for not so well known actors ,who have appeared in certain episodes of dr who,i am struggling now to think of people to send too,after many years of collecting,ive sent too more difficult targets recently,and this could be the reason for my disappointing returns,,might start a project on similar lines,the card note is brill mate:-)

Level of stardom has no bearing on speed of reply or whether they reply. Many of the lesser known people I have written to over the years have taken a long time or do not reply.

i know what you mean nigel,but i was refering really to indivuals who have a record of not replying,such as george michael,noel gallagher,liam gallagher,paul mccartney,all who i have written too,i think you have more of a chance of a reply ,writing to the less well known celebs for the first time,than keep trying the bigger names

That's a totally different ball game, and what I call speculative requests. Requests to any notorious names like these will mean accepting lost requests in the quest for success.

I guess my last really big one like this was Ronnie Wood.

To a lesser degree (not as big celebrity wise, but not common ttm replies) - Boy George, Sandie Shaw and Ken Russell around the same time.

All were autobiographies. I think sending a book versus picture/record card could well make a difference in some cases.
