Good morning all:) My head hurts lol:)
Right, i will start at the beginning. I tried five legends yesterday, but only three were home.
1st i travelled to Burnley to see John Connelly, but unfortunately he was not home, i wasn't sure about the number so if one of you could confirm it for me i would be grateful, No4???
I then travelled across to Preston, and on the way i tried to call Alex but his phone was off, so i assumed he was in bed or at work, could have killed for a coffee mate lol:)
Then from Preston, it was into Manchester. I decided to go and see Dave Sadler, i am always a little warey about going to see David, as he is such a foreboding figure. However, i rang the number at the gated property and a ladies voice answered, "Hello" . "Hello i said, is Mr Sadler at home?" "He is yes, who is it?" " My name is Paul, and i wondered if Mr Sadler would please add his signature to my book for me?" Then the gate began to open and i went around the back of the very impressive building to his front door. As i arrived at the door, Mr Sadler was standing there waiting. "How do you do Mr Sadler, sorry to bother you, but would you be kind enough to add your signature to my book for me?" He said nothing, just took the book and said "Where, here?" pointing at the title page. "Anywhere please" i said. "How are you" i said, trying to start coversation. He replied "Ok yeah" that was it, i then said thankyou very much for your time and he then gave me instructions on how to open the gate to get out. That was that 🙂 Thankyou Mr Sadler:)
I then travelled around the corner to Jimmy Ryan's house, this will crack you up:) I walked up to the front door and rang the bell. Jimmy answered the door and i asked "How dya do Mr Ryan, would you sign my book for me?" Yeah, of course i will" He said. Then as he was signing, his dog came out and started jumping up at me. "Down" He said. But the dog simply ignored him and trotted off onto the street. As much as he tried, the little dog paid no attention what so ever. Jimmy then knocked on the window and told his wife to come and get the dog. So there we were, all trying to get the dog back off the busy main road. Must be Mrs Ryan's dog because she gave a hearty "Get in" shout and the Beagle came running back in:) I then asked Jimmy if he had finished the car he was working on, "Its in the garage being finished" "There is another in the garage down there" he said pointing past me and downwards. We went and had a look and there was a gorgeous old sports car, red in colour of course 😉 "Thats a real beauty Jimmy" "Aye, he said, but needs work" "Hope you sort it " I said. Then i bid him good bye and thank you 🙂 Cheers Jimmy 🙂
Then i travelled across Manchester, to Brian Kidd's house. No longer daunted by the thought of knocking on Brian's door a strode up the driveway. There in the garage was Mrs Kidd. "Hellooooo" She said. "Is Mr Kidd at home please" "Sorry, he is out playing golf, Friday is golf day " she said. "Oh, Ok never mind, i just wondered of he would sign my book for me" I will try again another day" I said goodbye and left.
Then, it was a good distance to Tommy "The Doc" Docherty's house. I arrived at the address about 2.30 pm, but could i find it? Could i heck as. So i asked some suited gents sitting outside the pub if the knew of the name of the house. "Yeah, its up that lane there" "Cheers" I walked up a steep incline to a beautiful home perched on a hillside. As i arrived at the gate, a lady was just leaving the back door taking drinks out to the garden. "Excuse me, is this The B**n?" "Yes it is, can i help you" " I wondered if Mr Docherty would sign my book for me?" Then she shouted up the garden "Tom, your'e wanted" "Who is it came the reply in that soft scots accent. A young man wants you to sign his book for him" Then turning to me she said "Come in, he is at the bottom of the gearden" So i entered, closing the gate behind me. Then there he was, strolling towards me. "Hello Mr Docherty, my name is Paul and i wondered if you would please add your signature to my book for me?" "Of course i will, it would be a pleasure" We then stood in his lovely garden, and he started flicking through the book looking at the photo's. "Ahhh" he said, "Now there is a man that didn't get the rcognition he deserved" Jimmy Murphy, what a guy "He said. "In my opinion he is the guy that shaped the United of today". I replied saying "He certainly didn't get the recognition like you say" I know Albert Scanlon had a great fondness for him" "Aye, and so does Bobby" We then talked about Albert and what we here on the forum had done for him. Tommy was very impressed and said "Its nice to know fans still remember us":) He then turned to the signed pages, "Who is that one?" Pat Crerand" i replied "mmmm *$#+$" Lets just say that i dont think Pat and Tommy see eye to eye;) He then asked who the others were, and praised in particular Nobby, and Jack Crompton. "Super guys those two" he said. Then he asked "Who is that one?" David Herd i said. Ahhhh, what a guy, i played with him at Arsenal, brilliant bloke". He then took my sharpie and signed my book for me 🙂 I asked "Could i get a photo of you holding the book?" Aye corse you can" he said. Then i took the photo. He then said "Lets get one of the two of us" He called his wife over to take the photo of us both. I then said a huge thank you for his time and for signing at his home. "No problem , it was my pleasure, anytime" It was nice to meet you Paul" "We have met before i said" At Preston, but things were a little hectic. "Ahhh yes, i remember doing that, but i met so many that day " I then bid both him and his wife goodbye, and they gave a wave back:) Thank you very much, Tommy Docherty, a really nice chap:)
