Hiya guys and Jane:)
I remarked in my Denis knock that i had to go and see David Herd.
Well i did, and as always he was a truly lovely gent. I asked him if he would be kind enough to sign some photo's for me.
He said "Yes of course i will" Goodness you have a lot to do" Come in he said. We stood at a table in his hall way, and he began signing the photo's, pausing to chat as he did so. We talked mostly about Denis and himself and what good friends they were, ..... Sill are:)
Once he had finished signing he started taking some of his photographs down that were hanging on the wall. He has some really smashing photo's. Then he showed me the medals that he and his dad Alec had won. What a fantastic collection , WOW To see before my very eyes the 63 FA Cup final medal that David scored 2 goals in was to say the least awe-inspiring. There were around 12 medals in the collection.
After showing me the collection, David and i went to the front porch and i asked David if he would kindly allow me to take a photo of him holding the photo's i had just asked him to sign. He was a little reluctant, but he agreed to do it for me:) This will be my final knock with MrHerd. He has been a real pleasure to meet and to have chatted with.
In my eye's David is one of Manchester United's un sung hero's, he is still among the top scorers of all time. A truly remarkable player in his day:)
Thank you Mr Herd, i will miss our chats about Lincoln City, and woodhall spa:) And of course Manchester United:):):):)
