How to contact?

Hi

I've been browsing the forum and note that quite a few get some great results on here, particularly the footballers from years gone by, Thank you please can I ask how you go about contacting these celebtiries in the first place?  I'm just a fun collector and wouldn't mind getting some of the photographs signed that I have. Whilst on the subject of photos I've been advised that DSCL is one of the best places to use, can anyone confirm this?

Re: How to contact?

Hello,

Most of the addresses are found by research or, if you regularly post on here other members are often happy to help with contacts. There are a few sites that you can use for celebrity addresses such as fanmail.biz which is free or Star Tiger which has a small fee to use but a better database.

Hope this helps.

Re: How to contact?

Hi Filmwatcher

Many thanks for your reply it's much appreciated, I'll certainly check out those couple of sites. Please excuse my ignorance but being a newbie to this can I just ask the following.

Do the celebrities prefer to sign a photo, programme etc or would they be just as happy signing a white card?

When you send something off for signing is it the done thing to enclose a sharpie or will they sign it with whatever?

Finally, as the sender are we expected to pay the return postage or just keep everything crossed that anything sent will be returned?

Apologies for what will appear to be stupid questions but this is all alien to me, many thanks

Re: How to contact?

We have all be newbies at one point so don't feel your questions are stupid. We've all made mistakes so if you have any questions please ask.

Some celebrities will sign white cards but some don't because dealers like to use them to mount with a photo and make money off their name. I've always prefered to send photos or occasionally, a book.

If you have an item you want signed in a certain colour you can add a sharpie. It doesn't mean it will be used although you can mention it in your letter to them.

Always include a stamped addressed envelope. If you imagine getting even a couple of dozen requests a week, that's a lot of postage for the celebrity to pay out.  Not all celebrities will answer. It depends on how busy they are and some just don't want to. It's all part of the game.

The most important thing though is to have fun. It's surprising how quickly your collection will build if you're willing to put the work in.  Good luck and I hope we see some of your replies on here. Feel free to ask any questions you have and we'll try to help you.

Re: How to contact?

Suzanne has pretty much covered it but just add that IMO you have hit the nail on the head with DSCL, I order all of my photos form them, great quality and very reasonably priced.

I mainly use Star Tiger for my address, to me it is worth every penny but I mainly write to peole in entertainment rather than footballers.  I know that there are some footballers on there though.

Google can also be your friend in finding some addresses

There are many professional clubs that no longer pass mail onto the players so make sure you do your research before you send as don't want to be wasting your stamps

Good Luck. Please let us know how you get on

Re: How to contact?

Hi

I mainly collect football players from the 60/70/80/90 and some more recent ones where I can.

Generally use private addresses where I can and find that the older footballers are willing to sign and are usually glad that someone remebers them!! Like Greg has said, some of the bigger Premier clubs will not pass on your mail to the players so try and check before you send.

I do have many addresses for the older players and hopefully if you get some replies and post on here regularly then people will be willing to help you out with most things.

Look forward to hearing from you in the future and very good luck with your requests.

Re: How to contact?

Many thanks for all of your replies and support, I will take your advice on board and hopefully I'll get some positive responses. I've a number of present day footballers in my area, one of which I would love to sign a shirt for me but although he's only 5 minutes from from me I've resisted the temptation to drop it round to him and appreciate it's not the done thing. Thank you again and I'll post any  results
