On 9/11/13, I wrote Christopher Timothy, who starred as James Herriot in the ITN television series "All Things Bright and Beautiful," with a TTM request. I enclosed $2 USD for return postage, an SSAE, and a single 3x5 card for signing. As a devoted reader of the Herriot books during my late childhood, I had to write him and express my thanks for his brilliant performance as James Herriot.

Received his surprise reply today, 10/25/13, with the 3x5 signed "Love to Pat, from Christopher Timothy." He also sent a b/w photo of himself signed in the same way. That certainly made my day brighter. His address can be found at fanmail.biz, and this makes 5 for the week...........warmest regards to all on this chilly autumn day!

Would you believe that the entire poem popped into my head as I opened the envelope today? 'Twas my thinking that that particular TV program series ran for two or three seasons(here in the States), using each different line from that poem. But, then, I digress

A great success Pat. As I have mentioned on the forum before, Alf Wight (aka James Herriott) was our town vet when I was growing up so I like seeing replies linked with him. In fact I was at school when the series was on, and the BBC used students from the school for many of the child roles - one girl played Rosie Harriott for a couple of seasons (the real life Rosie was our doctor at the time). The funny thing was that the students who I knew who had speaking parts on the show had to 'put on' a stronger Yorkshire accent - something that I have also noticed on Downton Abbey (also set in North Yorkshire).
