Charity shop finds part 3

I found this book today. It is a massive coffee table size book - quite weighty. It is supposed to be a must read book about football.

The Soccer Tribe HB 1/1 1981 by Desmond Morriss - £2

It is not signed by Desmond but looks to be signed by two names from football. I recognsied the top signature as being John Sillett when I was in the shop, but do not know the bottom signature.

Does anyone recognsie the second signature?

Re: Charity shop finds part 3

Nigel you've got some brilliant charity shops with all these books you find!

Alex is right,it's one of John's Coventry team mates George Curtis-they were part of the Coventry management team in the late 80s

Re: Charity shop finds part 3

Your book finds amaze me, Nigel. Not only by being signed but by being so cheap. A lot of the shops near me have caught on and charge a lot for the signed books.

Re: Charity shop finds part 3

Thanks Rob, that's the chap. The management team that won Coventry the FA Cup in 87.

Suzanne - I do see a lot of higher priced items that I do not bother with. One shop currently has an Alex Scarrow 3rd print for £3 and a signed/dedicated Robert Harris Pompeii 1st for £2.50. Had they been 1sts and undedicated I might have been tempted. Another shop recently had a signed/ded Jimmy Hill book for £10. I regularly see a lot of signed chick lit I am not interested in, and some books are just too damaged. I like high grade books in my collection.

We have 8 charity shops around the town, and one other I go to once a month when I pickup meds for the family. I also have an Oxfam specialist near to where I work. The Oxfam specilalist tend to be £2 to £5 for most unless they spot something then it will go on the collectables shelf at a high price. They have recently started a £1 bargain shelf which has been good to me. My favourite shop locally does every hardback no matter the size for £1 and every paperback for 50p, plus Mills & Boon and kids stuff for 10p/20p. Another one has a monthly 25p table. Some do clearouts every few months  where you can pickup bargains, occasionally as low as 10p.

I take my daughter out every weekend, and look at the books as part of this outing. She loves going on the buses and trains, and looking in shops. We vary where we go also, and spread our wings to neighbouring towns some weekends.

It's fun, and I get just as much a buzz from finding signed books as I do getting a ttm reply in the post.
