A month ago I travelled down for the Cobblers away game at Southend and arranged three IP's to do while I was down there.
My first IP of the day was near Wokingham at the house of Dennis Brown who played for us from 66 to 69. I only spent about ten minutes with him, he very kindly offered me a cup of tea but it was obvious to me that his wife was waiting for him so they could go out. It was great meeting him, he is a gent.

From there I went over to meet Tommy Knox at his golf club near Sunbury. I only intended staying half an hour but an hour passed before I knew it. He told me his all time favourite goal he scored was against Bolton at there old ground while playing for Northampton. He very kindly brought a programme from the game for me to have. He still goes to Chelsea for the yearly players re-union and is a keen Celtic supporter also. I really didn't want to leave but I had to get over to Southend for the game. Thank you Tommy, I really enjoyed meeting you.

After the game I went to the house of Roy Sanders in Gidea Park. I was due to go and see Roy 17 years ago when I lived in London but I moved to Nottingham before we could meet. He remembered me from before so it was great to finally meet up with him. We spent an hour of non stop chatting about the Cobblers, his career in football and after. As he was a bricklayer and I am a carpenter we had a lot in common, in fact we didn't even sit down for the hour I spent with him as we were so engrossed in our conversation. It was a lovely end to a great day.

Unfortunately as things have gone a tad hectic I don't thin k I will be able to make any further visits for a while. Oh well, this day gave me a lot of good memories to go on.

It's so nice to hear about former players being so friendly. They obviously enjoy remembering their playing days. It must be a real privilege to talk with these men.

Fantastic. Sounds as though you had a really good day. It must be great meeting these ex players and spend some time talking to them. Maybe I might give it a go myself sometime.
