We’re excited to introduce easier invoicing, enabling sellers to automatically download VAT invoices, while providing buyers with easily accessible VAT receipts. By allowing buyers to self-serve, we hope this will help to reduce the number of requests received by sellers, while making it easier to maintain your accounting records.

Before you submit your request, please read the below on duplicate invoices:
If you currently generate your own invoices for your records, eBay also generating a VAT invoice on your behalf would result in a duplicate invoice.
Duplicate invoices could cause issues with your VAT accounting and potentially double your VAT liabilities, so it’s essential to ensure that such duplicates don’t occur.
During this trial, it will only be possible to cancel the eBay generated invoice in the case of credits or returns. This means that you would have to cancel your non-eBay invoice in the event that two invoices are generated for the same transaction.
How it works
- eBay generates a VAT invoice on the seller’s behalf
- VAT invoices/receipts become downloadable via the ‘View order details’ page
- Buyer and seller can download VAT invoices/receipts for their records
- Buyer and seller have access to VAT invoices/receipts and credit notes up to 18 months from the date of purchase or credit (which can only be downloaded within this period). We advise that you download invoices/receipts for your records as soon as possible
- Seller has the ability to action credit notes for returns and refunds. If you need to store these for longer, please download the invoices/receipts and keep them within your own records
Other considerations
eBay VAT invoices will contain sequential numbering in compliance with UK VAT invoicing requirements. This sequence will be generated based on eBay’s records for your sales.
When the seller opts in, they are able to access all their invoices from time of inclusion in the programme.
eBay will respond to requests within 72 hours of confirmation of participation, notifying you of the start of your enrollment.
