This is not a *slimming club* really.

I think it would be nice to have a place to come & chat about weight loss ideas (safe sensible ones only please!),
to share personal experiences and achievements, and also to ask for help.

Lindi is our resident expert, and has kindly offered her help.
Just introduce yourself and come on in, you are most welcome!

Clare xx

Hi Clare and all,
Sorry I could'nt get back on this board this afternoon. I was in work and got a bit of a rush on. But now I have managed to kick daughter off MY computer so I can catch up.

Some great tips have been said, I have learnt quite a bit from this thread.

My favourite way to exercise is walking, I got myself a pedometer, which is a small device that fits onto your belt at the hip and tells you how far you have walked and how many calories you have burnt during that walk. It gives me encouragement as I try to beat the readings from the last walk I did.

David.....50 years old with a big belly...(getting smaller mind).

This looks like a women only club, but here goes:
I'm slightly underweight and there seems to be nothing I can do to put on weight. But I believe in healthy eating and suggest the following:

For breakfast have a bowl of porridge (Sainsbury's own brand oats 1.5 kg for 99p) boiled in soya milk substitute (unsweetened) with a bit of sugar or sweetener added when cooking. Shredded wheat is probably the healthiest branded cereal with Weetabix a close second. Bran flakes and All-Bran type things are high in sugar and salt.

When at the supermarket or shops don't buy any sweets, biscuits or other snacks which are high in sugar, salt, fat. Instead get some shelled nuts and dried fruit (walnuts and dates go well together), and brazils are good for you as they're selenium-rich. Apricots, prunes, almonds. I always eat these things in the afternoon when I'm feeling a bit peckish. Unfortunately I still can't resist the temptation of a pint of real ale.

Thank you Lindi for your support and encouragement. Reading through your posts you make a lot of sense and make very good points. I find these boards brilliant you learn a lot and it keeps you busy!! And what Clare said about honesty is true although sometimes the truth can be very hard to admit. Nearly every woman I know has a problem with the way she percieves herself regarding weight, I think some of them are perfect but I suppose the key is how you feel about yourself. Anyhow this is a great place to meet others and learn new things.

110 you are so right there about how you feel about yourself.

Too many peeps try to reach a weight which is not easy for them to maintain, It doesnt matter what size you are as long as you are happy with it .

You are better being a happy 14 than a fed up 12

Go for a weight that you can reach and stay at even if its the top of the bmi range .

Pressure makes everyone want to be stick thin and thats not good.

It was a good idea of clares to put this on as everyone helps each other

Well off to the car boot and to have my treat of the week lol a toasted teacake with a coffee for brekkie

see you later love lindi

Buttered Crumpet, ooh no!

My breakfast is a couple of rashers of crispy bacon and an egg and perhaps some black pudding. Keeps me full up until after lunch. Eat a crumpet and you are hungry 2 hours later (and will be tempted to eat something).

Its not the butter that makes you put on weight, its the refined flour in the crumpet (or rather the combination of the pair).

Refined flour is not a natural food and refined carbohydrates are not the same as complex carbohydrates. There is a temptation to think that fat is fattening and also that meat is fattening because it contains fat, and by a process of elimination, only carbohydrates are not fattening. Thirty years of media and advertising indocrination and everyone thinks that carbohydrates are the only safe thing to eat. The carb frenzy started 20 to 30 years ago and in the same period obesity has doubled in the UK. If carbohydrates were the answer, by now with all the low fat high carb foods around we'd all be stick insects. It hasn't happened, so something must be wrong.

Having a bit of a problem with what to eat ATM. I've got a kidney infection and I've been advised to have a low protein diet for a few days. Had weetabix for brekkie but can't think what to have for lunch and this evening. If I just have lots of fruit and veg I'll be on the loo for the next 3 days! Don't like pasta. Apart from baked apuds, anyone got ideas? Nothing elaborate as I'm feeling pretty carp!
