This is not a *slimming club* really.

I think it would be nice to have a place to come & chat about weight loss ideas (safe sensible ones only please!),
to share personal experiences and achievements, and also to ask for help.

Lindi is our resident expert, and has kindly offered her help.
Just introduce yourself and come on in, you are most welcome!

I didn't like my local class because the leader was very strict. She said we couldn't have a certain diet squash because if we had six glasses a day it was half a point more than another one. IN TOTAL!

#38 Well done June! I also go to Slimming World and find it the only eating plan (don't call it diet!) that suits me.

I have been an on and off member for a few years, at best, I lost over 3 stone and felt great.
Had a few hiccups and breaks due to health reasons and consequently put some weight back on, but kept going back.
I have lost 6lbs so far this time and want to lose another stone.

If anyone is looking for a great eating plan that allows you to eat mammoth amounts of permitted foods AND lose weight, try Slimming World!

Personally I need the discipline of knowing I am going to be weighed each week, it is very friendly and great to know you are not alone!

my personal story......went veggie.... am now at my recomended BMI and have held it for 1 an a half years! (hav been veg for two) i'm not saying "turn veggie u lot" but by simply watching what you eat, and ensuring it's balnced, you lose alot more, and alot more SAFELY than you would by any "fad" diet!

I watch sugar (both my parents are type 2 diabetics) and saturated fat. I'm off the booze too.

No fad diet is good , I have researched everyone going , I have done the atkins , south beach, slimming world , rosemary conley all so i can talk better about losing weight .

What you said makes sense not in having to go veggie if you dont want but just eating a balanced diet .

Yes you can have fast food but not all the time
same with booze and chocolate

BALANCED IS THE WORD

Hi all, this is a great thread!

My problem is that I'm a total sugar addict. I try to combat this with frozen fruit (mango, strawberries, grapes, pineapple etc), but I still crave sugar like you wouldn't believe, it's the only thing that gets me up & about!

I have a shedload of food intollerences - Wheat, gluten, dairy, eggs & yeast so it's really hard to follow any diet as I can't eat the foods. I also have to eat a diet thats high in complex carbs as I have CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome - hence the food intollerences), yet still can't find the get up & go to exercise.

Am I completely hopeless or what!!???

Morning all

71# All that sugar is just making you crave more of it

If you need a sugar fix eat a meringue they are good at giving you a kick without the calories

Hello, can I come in? I need to lose a fairly daunting amount of weight - most of it gained by trying to follow silly diets in the past! I started by trying to lose a few poounds on some ridiculous trendy diet or other, lost control and put it all back plus a few extra pounds. Repeat the process several dozen times since the age of 18 and you get a very overweight 52 year old!

I joined Slimming World 2 years ago and did really well, losing a lot of weight in the first month then a steady smaller amount BUT then 1)I started working nights and got bored so I ate and 2)met my partner who lived 140 miles away and could only see him every 3 weeks and started comfort eating. I've since moved to live with Mr Wonderful and rejoined SW this week. I'm full of confidence that this time I'll do it.

Is this going to stay as one thread or will a new one get started every week? Only asking because it would be easier for folks to read through a smaller thread than the thousands of postings this could get in a month or so?

Good Morning!!

So how are you all today?

Well today is the LAST day i will be (ahem)stone
(ahem)pounds! I joined WW online and feel raring to go.

Thanks for the suggestion brummieswan, i agree it would get pretty long, so i am in discussions with lindi about a sensible solution.
Any further suggestions are welcome!

Well i hope you are all feeling ok today and a little tip for the day:
**Before you pop it in your mouth, ask yourself ~ "Do i realy need to eat this?" and find yourself a distraction.** A lot of the time we eat to excess through boredom.

I reckon you have hyperinsulism. A craving for sugar and some simple carbohydrates is an indication that you are eating too much of it.

Eating sugar leads to the production of insulin to deal with it. An hour or two after the sugar has been 'processed', your blood sugar levels plummet causing you to crave more.

Apart from the fact that it is terrible for your teeth, you can permanently damage your insulin receptors.

The problem with the obsession for producing low fat products means that the the proportion of sugar we eat has rocketed because manufacturers have been forced to replace the fat in products with something, and that something is sugar.

If you have to eat sugary things, pick fruit or raw carrots.

Flopity, I think you are spot on!

Also if you eat a lot of Carbs (bread pasta etc) they send your insulin up and so you crave sugar,
Another culprit is artificial sweeteners.

I found that when i tried the slimming world diet i craved SO much sugar and it was because of the amount of carbs i was eating AND artificial sweeteners galore!(nice as it was to be able to eat loads!).
I now only use fruit sugar to try and help my sugar levels stay balanced (both parents diabetic, so i try to be careful) and it seems to help.
