postage rates??

Hi, as an ebay seller im always looking for new lines to add to my store.

while checking my suppliers websites for new lines, i always then search ebay for the same items and check sales history & profits etc..

i find so often others (businesses) are selling the item at a cost lower than the postage??

often it appears they must be posting as a large letter instead of a small parcel! otherwise there is no way they can make profit.

are they just hoping that their sent items arent checked for size etc? do royal mail have a system that detects size?? just curious how they are doing this as its quite frustrating to find what is a good selling item but due to others avoiding paying the correct postage its not worth pursuring.

thanks in advance, appriciate any comments.

Lots of high volume business sellers may list items really cheaply as loss leaders.
