I went to The doctors with severe pain in my right upper arm and was diagnosed with an injured bicep, Doctor told me to rest it as much as I can otherwise it won't heal. Well I have tried to but as I am a carer to a few members of my family and can't keep still I have damaged it again.
This time I think I have completely torn/ruptured it as it has bruised and gone a funny shape, I have tried to rest it again and the pain has gone, but the shape and bruising is still the same.
My question is, is there anyone out there who has experienced similar who can tell me they finally recovered and got their bicep back to normal. Ho long did it take or did you have to go and have surgery to repair it. The thing is.. I have googled and I really don't want to have surgery, I can't afford the time off.

That sounds painful. I've never had anything like that and I hope that it soon feels better.

Hi all, thank you for your replies and sympathies. xxx
Saasher, wouldn't really know what the spasm is, it certainly was giving me jip, bicep area and all in my shoulder joint. That does seem to have eased off now, but when I did the second bad pull, I heard it pop, and then sharp pains for a day or so.
I have tried hard not to use it for any weight bearing/lifting and the pains have gone but my muscle now is a very funny shape almost swollen looking compared with my left arm. I just hope it gets better on it's own, but am frightened now to use it for anything that needs strength just in case it isn't ready yet.
I know if I go to the Doctor he will stop me from doing everything, and I just don't need it right now.

Sounds as though it's become detached! A muscle spasm is a tightening & clenching of an injured muscle,
You have a choice go to the Drs , take his advice & stick to it no matter what or risk causing permanent damage.
Can't the rest of your family help does it all have to rest on your shoulders alone?
Detached, is what I am afraid of.
As for the rest of the family, it is mainly down to me, I am the only driver. xxx
I have just taken some pics, it really looks weird, wil try and post them
