A nine pounder

Brenda Clarke checked her watch.  Another ten minutes and she'd be on her way.  As a qualified midwife she reckoned she'd brought literally hundreds of babies into the world over the years.  Some mother had kept in touch, but most had forgotten about her once they were safely home.  Although tired, she wanted to pop round to Carol to see how she was doing.  They'd known each other years.

She rang the bell.

"Hi, Carol,  How are you doing?"

"Hopeless - it won't budge an inch.  Here, let me show you."

"You're right - it looks like a two man job.  We'll both push together.  Ready?  On three.  One, two threeee - push!"

"I AM pushing!"  Growled Carol.  Beads of sweat were on both of their foreheads.

"One more time - we're almost done."  Carol found the strength within her.

"YESSSS!!!"  She screamed triumphantly.  Both laughed and hugged each other, elated.  "I couldn't have done it without you."  She continues, still taking in gulps of air.

"Nine pounder."

"Nine pounder, you say?"

"Yes - nine pounder.  Just what the hell is it that makes these washing machines so heavy?"
