Going by ebay latest response, thay are not going to do anything to resolve this issue.
Basically they could necare less about us and our complaints.
They will have crunched the numbers before this fiasco even started and thought something like " we will lose revenue initially but some of that loss will be regained by the people being affected because most of the people being affected can't afford new phones oit of retailers so they will buy off ebay.
Complaints cost them little, everyone affected boycotting ebay WILL cost them money and, if its enough of a loss then maybe just maybe, they will do something about this unbelievably annoying issue
I don't do social media so I urge you all to post something on there and get everyone to boycott!!!!!!!
I've deleted the app and won't be using ebay again until either my phone dies or they fix this *bleep*
(PS thanks everyone who has posted on this issue)

The simple fix is to open your phone browser and go to www.ebay.co.uk/ and sign in
Everything you need is there online
You just won't be able to use the app from now on

I can no longer use ebay either I've tried to update the app but having no luck not happy with it

If your operating system does not support the latest version of the eBay app and you cannot update your operating system or use a previous version that is still supported, it should still be possible to use a mobile browser to go to ebay.com or ebay.co.uk and use eBay that way.
If you are using iOS 15, see instructions here for installing a compatible version of the eBay app (link goes to US boards):
https://community.ebay.com/t5/Mobile-Apps/Can-t-log-on-ebay/m-p/34718852/highlight/true#M49153
If eBay browser links are opening in the app automatically, iOS users should be able to tap and hold an eBay browser link and select "don't open in the app" to prevent that from happening. Android users need to go to the device Settings: Apps: eBay: Open by default: Open supported links and select "don't open in the app".

Thanks vintique*violet – I'll save your advice for potential future use should this problem recur.
As I reported above [06-02-2025 7:52 AM GMT] , I've had this same looping update problem on my iPhone 7 [iOS 15.8.3] since 4 Feb, despite reattempts to use the eBay app every few hours.
In the end I uninstalled the app, and used the poorer browser interface instead…
Since 7:00 AM GMT, 6 Feb the eBay app [now Version 6.1470.3] has been re-installed [possibly automatically?] and has been functioning as I would normally expect.
For which I'm grateful – for my purposes as a buyer I can monitor my "saved searches" much more readily on an iOS app [which flags new results with a blue dot] than on a browser [which doesn't].
From my uninformed perspective it looks like eBay issued an update [6.1470.2?] on 3rd/4th Feb which didn't run on anything earlier than iOS 17, had a bunch of user complaints, and felt it best to rework the update to be more backwardly compatible [6.1470.3].
But in the absence of any coherent explanation [indeed, a flurry of conflicting "We know – we're-fixing-it" / "Tough-luck – get-over-it" responses] from eBay, my guess is as good as anyone else's…

So a reprieve of sorts for your iPhone OS then Xanthias1, but not for Android 9? :^/

I have Android 8.0 so I guess I'm f* anyway. I can't update it any further.

There is another post titled...How to make the app work again on your older phone... eBay member paralleloid has posted a solution on how to get the app working again.

"So a reprieve of sorts for iPhone users, but not for Android 9 then...? :^/"
Who can tell?
I can only speak from my own very limited experience.
It would be good to hear from some Android-users, and some more iOSers to build up a consensus.
[That's one of the functions of a forum, after all…]

Definitely.
Just tried it again. Still no go on A9.

Probably worth retrying for another day or two…
I don't know the user-base logistics, but I doubt it would be good customer service for eBay developers to be perceived as favouring one platform and heritage-ditching the other…
Fingers crossed for you and other A9ers…

My Sony Xperia Android says no more software updates available ,everything is up to date. Currently Android 9 installed

Thanks for the link vintique*violet… paralleloid and 9mileshigh summarise the procedure very well:
parelloid writes:
> "I’ve found a way round this on my iPad with iOS 15
Open the eBay app
Ignore the Box saying ‘Exit’ or ‘Update’
Press the home button to go back to the main screen
Go to eBay in Safari
Click the ‘Open in eBay App’ button at the top
If it doesn’t work the first time, go back to Safari and try again"
and 9mileshigh:
> "I have followed your instructions to the letter on my home iPhone SE iOS 15.8.3 and lo and behold, the app now works.
On my second identical work phone, I went to Safari settings and cleared history and website data first. Launched Safari, went to eBay, and logged in… Then the app automatically opened."
Indeed, I [xanthias1] suspect that that's what was going on in the background for the iOS app to reappear on my iPhone this morning…
Thanks to ALL for documenting this !
Whether a comparable work-around will be effective on Android remains to be seen.
I'd encourage skywarp29 and other to give it a try…

I have a Sony xz1 not sure if it's possible to update the phones system. I had to delete the mobile app so I wouldn't keep being redirected back yo it if I looked through my browser.
I can't stand the browser version so it's p*ssed me right off.
My phone works fine and I can't afford to replace it plus it has a feature that helps with my poor eyesite that I'm unsure ir new models have that same feature.
That said I will be boycotting ebay and I urge everyone to do the same.
Maybe if ebay loose enough buisness / profits then they just might get the old version back up and running alongside the new one f
That said I've decided to
06-02-2025 1:50 PM
I think they found that because they did not delete the app then install again. Since the first dicovery the other day of the app not working, ebay have back tracked a bit. Sadly not enough for older firmware, but at least back to ios 15 on the Apple platform.
I deleted the app, then installed again on ios 15 and works. I have not had any information back with Android users.

Nope, can't do that on A9.

Thank you @jointerspark for the information. Glad you have yours sorted.

"That said I will be boycotting ebay and I urge everyone to do the same. "
Happy for you to bale out, if that option suits you… BUT –
I'm a niche eBay-er with a particular focus – I buy vintage fountain pens manufactured by a defunct pen company that went out of business 70 years ago…
I have a collection of 300+ of their pens, mostly bought on eBay, which customarily cost me [around] $[n]k per year.
I've got a known profile in the community… and pen dealers on eBay often alert me to items that they know will attract me. [Mind you – they tend to be pricey…]
Contra-wise, I can often snap up spares-and-repairs [and the occasional rarity] on the cheap, from charity and house clearance outlets using eBay to shift stock, or generalist sellers who can't assess the potential value of what they're selling…
Unless such vendors move to another platform en masse, I'm stuck with eBay…
They're not moving to Amazon or "Look-at–ME-I'm-CReATiVe" platforms like Etsy…
[Not asking for sympathy – just sharing where I'm coming from … ]

Would have been nice if they went to explain why this is, otherwise some of us may speculate bull 💩.
06-02-2025 4:41 PM
bull 💩 is rife in corporate communications [been their, done that]…
Quote:
"I have checked and to increase the security of the eBay application we have updated the system requirements to use the application to minimum of Android version 10 and ios version 17 to be able to use the application. This update is required as the security features in the lesser android versions are not enough to keep your accounts secured."
My account security is my responsibility, and I have been assiduous in ensuring my use of eBay is verifiably secure at my end…
If eBay introduces "updates" which compromise that security, it's eBay's responsibility to ensure that the current user-base is accommodated without independant user action to "fix" the problem eBay has identified…
[Apologies: a complicated sentence which may be beyond eBay Corporate to address…]
