I spent time on the ebay agent chat yesterday. She confirmed, having put me on hold while she spoke to technical department, that unless my tablet uses Android 10 I could no longer use the app. She told me the access via the browser would be just as good. It definitely is not. She admitted that ebay are being deluged by complaints by people like me, so maybe they will react??

Exactly, ring eBay don’t just see what happens.
The only way is to give them grief as I mentioned yesterday.

I checked for updates in settings and after a lengthy update my phone went from Android 9 to 11 so it is worth checking...

Agreed, this is ridiculous. I wonder how many sellers and customers they are about to lose? I guess my Samsung s8 no longer works with Ebay, woke up to the same messages. Being forced to use Amazon now😫

Just to remind people of my phone details, I wrote:
>"I'm running iOS 15.8.3 on my iPhone 7 and as of today [4 Feb 2025] my eBay app flags up an "Update required" dialogue with "Exit" and "Update" as the only options…
I want to be able to access eBay so – of course – I click "Update" which sends me into a loop of the App Store>Open>eBay>"Update required", as before…"
This loop continued for around 48 hours…
As of this 7:00am, 6 Feb 2025 [UK time], the eBay app [Version 6.1470.3] returned to my iPhone and is now operating normally… No loss of data or functionality.
Other users may vary… so not conclusive; comments welcome.
Not 100% a Happy Bunny, but apparently out of the wood…

Are you asking is it still free to sell for Private sellers? Yes, there are no final value fees if the item sells, but if you add any optional listing upgrades shown below, these all come with a non refundable listing fee payable sale or no sale. As said these are optional.
Reserves: 4% of the set reserve ( maximum £150 per item)
Subtitles: £2
Listing in 2 categories: 35p
Gallery Plus: £2.50 ( free for clothes and shoes)
Listings with duration 1 - 3 days 35p
As a tip, before clicking on the final List Item With Displayed Fees button, glance just above it, it should read £0.00 Listing Fee.
If there is a fee amount listed there, you have selected an upgrade, and if you wish, it gives you time to scroll up and remove the payable upgrade.
There are non refundable fees to pay, if you Promote items. Selling vehicles incurs a non refundable listing fee , too.

As far as I can tell, it's still free…
I've certainly not been asked to approve a payment. But, that said, I wasn't asked to approve an update…

I have a left a bad 1 star review of eBay on the google play store to express my disappointment at the move.
Could other android users also leave a bad review if possible? it could help to let them know how many people are unhappy by the changes! Thank you

The technical issue they are concerned about as related to a fixable glitch seems to be whether people can see images on the minimum system requirements, i.e: Android 10 and iOS17.
If they told you they intend to fix the situation with unsupported systems like Android 9 etc, then what the representative is saying seems at odds with the official statement EB have already put out saying it's over for us on those unsupported operating systems. The inferior mobile browser will now be all we have.
We have been put out to pasture as of Feb 4th and are expected to buy new phones if we wish to continue using the app. I don't want to resort to foul language, name-calling or being hyper critical of ebay's motivations as I'm sure they had their reasons, but IMHO the public awareness management on their part with regards to this important issue has been MASSIVELY mishandled when so many loyal customers are affected.
I wish it were different news and they had showed more consideration towards all those phone users this has been sprung on without warning. It's not. They haven't. We are as expendable as our 2-3 yr old phones in their eyes, unfortunately.
A year or two from now the shelf life of an Android OS will probably shorten even further to 1yr - 18 months and people will be expected to ditch those phones for whatever AI/neural lace nonsense is coming down the pipe. It's insane the jumps we're being forced to jump through re: the tech we buy in good faith with basically zero consumer protection, and all the while the tech companies designing apps for higher tier OS's are casually sidelining the older ones, quite literally able to trash-can working devices overnight.
Eventually people will become exhausted with this trend and you'll see a return to basic, simpler systems. The "return to vinyl" effect, if you will ...
Good vibes & wishes all - don't let this grind you down and have a happy 2025 despite it. :O)

I did the same. I can't be bothered chatting to ebay customer service to complain. Wasted enough time already trying to update my phone and the app, but it didn't work.
