Just tried opening the app on my android phone and get the message "this version is no longer supported. Please update to the latest version". Pressing the "update" goes to Google play but the only options are "Uninstall" or "Open" - no option to update. Pressing "Cancel" closes the app.
I suspect they pushed a new version of the app to deal with the changes introduced overnight but something has gone wrong somewhere.
Anyone else got this issue?

Hi. As a person who takes many photos for my eBay items (and i also use a lap-top,) i can not use my android phone anymore, i have dyslexia and phone photos was easy and quick.
Transferring photos onto a laptop is very time consuming (laptop is pretty full anyway.)
I am not adding new items now.
The app no longer works due to this upgrade of an app.

i am android 9. As a person with dyslexia i use a laptop but listing became so much easier to add photos with the app. I had worked out that was great and then back to laptop where the photos then would be on my drafts and i would then list.
Now i am not adding new items.
I am not thinking of getting a new phone so yes it is annoying.
eBay are really doing some damage to their sellers and customers.

Thank you for the information. It's too late to edit the published post but I tweaked the stored text. I tried to keep things as simple as possible and remember running around like a headless chicken, when the update first came out.
The references to the store platforms was because of a post many moons ago, when someone was blaming the Google Store for the app problem.

To all that can’t update the app. Most people using this forum have been through similar problems. I wasted 3-4 hours trying to upgrade the app in vain. My phone = Galaxy S7, Android 8.
An Android device needs to be Android 10 or higher.
An Apple device needs to be iOS 17 or higher. iOS 16 can be used, although you may get a message saying it has to be iOS 17.
The Play Store and Apple Store are platforms publishing software and updates. The actual software is provided by the manufacturer of your device. Leaving feedback will warn other people about the problems.
eBay can still be accessed at www.ebay.co.uk via a computer, mobile phone or tablet browser. You must delete the app before accessing the website. There are other ways around it but I don’t want to complicate things. I mainly use the website and hardly use the app (used to use the app). I can no longer access the app and will not be buying a new phone, Unless someone has a spare £500-£1000 they would like to donate.
If you have a device the app can run on and it still doesn’t work, I’m stumped. The operating system may be corrupted. The only thing I can think of, is to do a clean Android or iOS install on your device and try again. This means losing all your data. It’s not something I would like to do but maybe the only answer. The Android or iOS version needs to be genuine. There’s no telling what’s in an unofficial version. If all else fails please contact eBay and post your results here. It may help someone else.
Hope this helps people to stop tearing their hair out. Please let me know if you want to add anything or if it needs tweaking. I’ll keep a copy of it to post now and again.

Yes but the app lists much much faster and is far far more user friendly

I had a similar experience. I sold an item to be collected and eBay sent a message saying I needed to enter a collection code via the app. Hahahahahaha. Without this, the item would not be marked as collected and I would not be paid, so it’s quite important. I got back to them saying I can’t run the app because my phone is too old. They told me it can be done online, which worked a treat. It’s a pity these instructions weren’t included in the first place. I am amazed a big company like eBay can’t provide better help for their customers.

I have the same problem, bloody annoying, going round in circles, had the app quite a while, been very good, but thinking of getting rid.

I think I may have a solution to this problem.
If you’re buying or selling on eBay, you will no doubt get emails from them containing a link to the item you’re buying or selling.
When you do get an email with the link to your item, click on the item link and it will take you to your item.
As the eBay page opens, you will see the annoying message, ‘Update Required’
DO NOT click ‘EXIT’ button within the ‘Update’ box, but simply go back to your email message and click the same item link and you should be taken to your eBay item minus the ‘Update Required’ message.
It’s not a permanent fix, but it should give you access to the app.
Good luck !

My phone was running the old App until today. Ebay knew I was running an old app when I tried to login in after rebooting the phone.
Least it will stop me spending so much money on Ebay as I will have to log in to my Laptop to bid on anything.
Every Cloud eh?
