Just tried opening the app on my android phone and get the message "this version is no longer supported. Please update to the latest version". Pressing the "update" goes to Google play but the only options are "Uninstall" or "Open" - no option to update. Pressing "Cancel" closes the app.
I suspect they pushed a new version of the app to deal with the changes introduced overnight but something has gone wrong somewhere.
Anyone else got this issue?

I think I may have a solution to this problem.
If you’re buying or selling on eBay, you will no doubt get emails from them containing a link to the item you’re buying or selling.
When you do get an email with the link to your item, click on the item link and it will take you to your item.
As the eBay page opens, you will see the annoying message, ‘Update Required’
DO NOT click ‘EXIT’ button within the ‘Update’ box, but simply go back to your email message and click the same item link and you should be taken to your eBay item minus the ‘Update Required’ message.
It’s not a permanent fix, but it should give you access to the app.
Good luck !

Same, wanted to claim my first time discount and could not use the app, says I need to update. Try to update and it tells me not compatible with my device.
It's an Android 9 phone, dated but I have no intention or need to replace it.
Never mind I guess.

I have this issue too, for ebay and You tube. It simply means get about €1,200, for a good smartphone and go get yourself another one. It's making more money, that's all what we care about. Stiff luck to you.

So this is the reason why my sales have dropped dramatically in the past couple of weeks.
I have a printed business card with a QR code directing people to my eBay business page.
It no longer works because eBay have once again changed something that wont work.
I have tried to download your new App several times, but alas all I get is the error message
"We're sorry but the app is no longer supported. Update to the latest version."
So do we now have to advise our customers to buy a new phone, update their software and come back and place orders?
Why don't you fix things that are broken on your platform instead of trying to change the shape of the wheel??
If you no longer want small businesses on your platform, then just let us know and we will leave quietly.

Hello Boy-B,
Yes you are correct, it is impossible to find the rates for their postal charges.
I have looked several times.
I have put it down to the fact that they want you to tick the wrong box and spend more than you wanted on sending the item. ie signed for / insured / 1st class etc.
If you are a private seller, the new system (as I understand it) is that you don't get your money for the sale, until it is confirmed delivered. ie you have sent it tracked / signed for. Other than that you would have to wait 2 weeks (I think) for your money.
If you are trading as a business, then as you don't have a Royal Mail account, then it would be cheaper to go to their web site and use 'click and drop', where you buy postage online and then have it collected or you deliver it to the post office. The saving is about 5%-10% on counter prices.
IMPORTANT ..... when working out your postage, you must remember that eBay take 15% - 20% commission on the postage that you charge the buyer. (as well as the final valuation fee for selling the item) So you must remember to add that amount onto your postage charges or build it into the price you are selling it for.
If you include the postage in the price of the product, (free postage) then eBay will charge the buyers protection fee on the whole lot. Confused or screwed the eBay way.

To all that can’t update the app. Most people using this forum have been through similar problems. I wasted 3-4 hours trying to upgrade the app in vain. Galaxy S7, Android 8.
An Android device needs to be Android 10 or higher.
An Apple device needs to be iOS 17 or higher. iOS 16 can be used, although you may get a message saying it has to be iOS 17.
The Play Store and Apple Store are platforms for providing software and updates. The actual software is written by the manufacturer of your device. Leaving feedback will warn other people about the problems.
eBay can still be accessed at www.ebay.co.uk via a computer, mobile phone or tablet browser. You must delete the app before accessing the website. There are other ways around it but I don’t want to complicate things. I mainly use the website and hardly use the app (used to use the app). I can no longer access the app and will not be buying a new phone, Unless someone has a spare £500-£1000 they would like to donate.
If you have a device the app can run on and it still doesn’t work, I’m stumped. The operating system may be corrupted. The only thing I can think of, is to do a clean Android or iOS install on your device and try again. This means losing all your data. It’s not something I would like to do but maybe the only answer. The Android or iOS version needs to be genuine. There’s no telling what’s in an unofficial version. If all else fails please contact eBay and post your results here. It may help someone else.
Hope this helps people to stop tearing their hair out. Please let me know if you want to add anything or if it needs tweaking. I’ll keep a copy of it to post now and again.

The highlighted bit isn't quite correct.
The Android and iOS operating systems are written by Google and Apple respectively. In the case of Android the OS is then usually customised by the individual device manufacturer.
The Apps on the Google Play Store and Apple Store are written by the individual App developers using either Google's Android software development kit or Apple's.
