Just tried opening the app on my android phone and get the message "this version is no longer supported. Please update to the latest version". Pressing the "update" goes to Google play but the only options are "Uninstall" or "Open" - no option to update. Pressing "Cancel" closes the app.
I suspect they pushed a new version of the app to deal with the changes introduced overnight but something has gone wrong somewhere.
Anyone else got this issue?

Hi vintique*violet
I realize people on here are helping each other and eBay are keeping a low profile. Thank you for your help.
I am willing to try anything to get the app working again. Please keep the suggestions coming. The most annoying thing is doing this without warning.
I had a similar thing with a grocery delivery company. They upgraded their website and wiped out 9 years of my favorites. I never shopped with them again and never will. I knew one of the drivers, who told me they lost loads of customers over this.

Thanks @tressygirl for the info
Good grief though, what a bad thing for eBay to do 🙄
Over to the web version, then 😆 ...

How ridiculous why do these companies not give any consideration to those of us who have perfectly good phones and either dont want, need or cant afford a new phone just to use the thing that makes them money.

How can I disagree with your post, I cannot, but I'm a mere member like yourself, bringing in messages and announcements from eBay on these boards, and yes, it's not always good news ! 😑

Same here on 8, guess we just can't use the app anymore. What ashame.

No problem at all, sorry I am unable to resolve... if I hear of anything else as a possible " solution" will post but it looks like browser or a new phone... it is appalling that eBay did not give their " customers" a heads up...
What type of phone are you using Apple or Android?
Oh, that is interesting as I had a similar thing and have never used a supermarket since... it was the only " small" way of making it known that I can shop elsewhere with better service.
It seems we are just "numbers" to all these corporates.

I just tried doing a similar thing on my Android, from the instructions for an iPad. It leads back to the same problem of upgrading the app which is not possible on Android 8. Hopefully, someone at eBay will see the light and give us a patch.
Have you tried deleting the app and using the mobile site? It's better than trying to see the full desktop version on a small screen but not as good as the app.

"Buy a new phone" is eBay's indirect answer as they are not concerned about us spending £800 for a new phone

Yes...
I have phone on Android 9.0 Hauwei 2020...
Will not update to the new ebay app.
I talked to an ebay rep in California two nights ago, said 24 hours, but obviously not going to work!
Sad, as I was using ebay a lot, now unable to, won't be buying a new phone for this!

THIS IS AN UPDATE TO MY OWN POST ABOVE:-
GREAT NEWS - I had that silly update message, which those of us who have anything below android 10 cant update well I think I found the solution.. intrigued read on - so its not gonna be quite the same as the app but good enough till Ebay do the right thing.
First open Ebay in your web browser - once the page is loaded -(Samsung browser) click on the + symbol at the bottom of the screen and then select add to app screen/home screen (depends on the website) what this with do is create a basic Ebay app which you can access like you would the old app. You can do this with other sites aswell but depending on the website it will either create an app or a shortcut on your device.
If you are using Google chrome one your on the website tap the 3 dots in the top right corner then scroll down and click add to home screen and this will create a shortcut on your device.
Personally I think the Samsung option is best as it literally creates an app that works without having a web address bar taking up space. Hope you all find this solution useful. Please share this solution so others in our situation can use it to.

Yes I got the same message and result

It's Android 8, that's the highest version my phone can update to. I've been tethering for about 3 months, this saves me about £200 per year, compared to broadband with a router. So far, I'm very pleased with it. I noticed a further problem with the app update, it's possible that updating may not work through 'Mobile Data'. I only have 'Mobile Data' and use my phone as a 'Hot Spot' to connect to my laptop. So if I did have a newer phone, it still may not update. I no longer have a router or WiFi and I'm still self-isolating, so I can't get out to connect to WiFi. I prefer to use the website but find the app useful at times. This hasn't been thought through properly.

So sorry - I understand, and agree it hasn't been thought through at all... it has affected so many users on many different levels, sadly.
Another poster @ebmocinnivjv posted the following ( see below ) not sure if it is of any help or you may have already seen it? ...
