Today I received what looked like an offer email from ebay for the whole amount that the item was listed for. I did not received the same offer within ebay. How does a scammer obtain my email address and tie it in with my account and the items I'm selling? Is there any way of hiding it to prevent this happening as I'm nervous about being hacked. I have forwarded it to ebay.

Well spotted.
Scammers find your email address in all sorts of ways,
you give it out to lots of sites,
they may be previous buyer,
you replied to phishing email & gave it away,
may not have been anything to do with ebay.
