Today I received what looked like an offer email from ebay for the whole amount that the item was listed for. I did not received the same offer within ebay. How does a scammer obtain my email address and tie it in with my account and the items I'm selling? Is there any way of hiding it to prevent this happening as I'm nervous about being hacked. I have forwarded it to ebay.
Email addresses are hardly secret, consider how many people you have given your email to. Unless known there would be little point in having an email address. It is just like your name or home address you cannot be anonymous.
Once an address gets into the hands of a scammer, then it gets passed on, rather like a mailing list.
You just need to be careful and add any contacts to your Blocked Emails.
