Today like over 100 times before I ordered something from Ebay. Instead of getting the usual acknowledgement from Ebay and Paypal I received an email direct from the seller advising that they had set up an account for me (without my consent) using my Ebay account details and username and my private email address which could only have come from Ebay. This was a direct communication from the seller to my email address and not the way it has always happened before i.e. Via Ebay. I believe this to be a clear breach of my personal privacy rights but what can i do about it? Best regards.
EBay's policy on privacy is explained in the user agreement. When you're in a transaction with another member, this gives both parties the right to access each other's contact details.
By "Setting up an account" the seller hopefully just means that they've made a record of your details in the event of any queries or repeat orders. You can't have any meaningful "account" without your participation.
It's probably just a well intentioned seller, trying to be efficient. However if they start sending you spam this is reportable to eBay, if sent through eBay messages. If sent direct by email you would just have to set up a blocking filter.
You may want to delay leaving feedback until near the 60 day time limit. You could then warn other buyers if the seller sends you spam.
