I currently have a return case with a seller.
They have been contacting me on my home phone.
They say they got it from ebay.
Are ebay allowed to give out my home telephone number like this?
Are ebay allowed to give out my home telephone number like this?
Only for members who have been in a recent transaction with you. Contact details can be requested here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/ebayadvsearch?_sofindtype=9
EBay isn't anonymous. You are enteirng into a contract to buy or sell with another member. You both have a right to know who each other is, and how to contact them.
you gave permission when you signed up to use ebay
sellers are given your name, address, email address and phone number when you purchase an item.
ebay CS are talking through their hats as usual!
they have no idea how the site works
when you buy an item the seller is given those details, I know this because I am a seller
they have recently changed the rules so they don't give your full email address, but they provide a way for the seller to send a message to your email address
this what a seller is provided:-
Ebay can only give a seller your phone number if you've given Ebay permission to do so. In other words, you gave Ebay permission, either when you registered your account or when you edited your account at some point.
If you don't want this to happen in future, adjust your account settings accordingly.
You bought from the seller, he is given your contact details (how else is he going to deliver to you) and you are given his.
If you don't want details given then don't buy in the first place.
