plant id please

can anyone please tell me what this plant is.so far its about 3 1/2 foot tall and has a woody stem.

sorry late in getting back but waited for it to come into flower and it does not look like thos in the earlier post..also there is none in next doors garden..

Would boiling water work on horsetail/marestail? It's taking over parts of the garden. I managed to keep it mostly in one place, but it got out of hand last summer after I had an op and i wasn't allowed to bend or stretch for months. My husband thought he would deal with it - by pulling up what he could and spreading small gravel on the area. It didn't work, of course. A friend said to wear rubber gloves and bruise it, but not break it off and then spray with Roundup. Anyone tried it or got other ideas how to deal with it?

we had loads of horse tail in our old house ..we mixed weedkiller in a little wallpaper paste and pasted it on horse hair so it stuck and not washed of..did this for about 2 seasons and we eradicated all of it.
