I assume you have little history of using the machine and as it's new were not the person who installed the browser?
I don't know if other browsers - assuming you have them installed - manage to display ebay pages ok?
Personally if it persists and you consider it important enough I would be tempted just to remove and re-install the browser, as it takes just a minute or two. Most browsers seem to have generated a few problems with various sites , from time to time, if you check the support pages here and elsewhere, but this particular board is just a general ancient's moan and whinge board, there are other boards like Computing advice ( under same umbrella board as this- ebay cafe - as well as the buyer-seller boards ) where you may get further support, though better still might be the various google/chrome boards for specific issues, and easily found on the net.
Meanwhile, if you go to settings in chrome, show advanced settings, you can restore the browser settings back to default, and see if it makes any difference. It should, needless to say, show ebay pages fine, and indeed I am using it at the moment.
There is an auto detect code function option, but far as I know, that is only for iOS
