Why do I find e-bay members with good feedback ratings but when I read feedback its negative?

I have recently sold items to e-bay members whose feedback is all positive but then i've had problems with them..I then find that if I read their feedback there are plenty of negative comments and warnings !!! How can this happen and how does it protect honest e-bayers?

Unfortunately some sellers believe that leaving negative comments on a positive green dot will be flagged up in someway so every other seller can spot it a mile off!!  Sellers have not been able to leave negative feedback on a red dot for 5+ years but some really can't their heads around it. They think they're helping other sellers but as you have found out it doesn't.

Chances are those sellers had non paying buyers and instead of opening unpaid item cases so buyer gets a strike on their account (which helps other sellers) they go down the feedback route. Do not be tempted to do it yourself, it is a policy violation and can damage your account.

I think sometimes reading the buyers feedback comments is useful even though they may be showing 100% feedback. Buyer positive feedback happens because sellers are not allowed to give negative feedback - ebay rules! Forewarned is forearmed.

What you can do as a seller is just make sure your TOS (Terms of Sale) are very clear and your descriptions and photos of items are thorough honest and accurate. Add to that you do not pay return postage on items and be clear about any returns policy you have or don't have. You can also block previously difficult buyers from bidding on your items. You can also check if they have retracted previous bids on similar items.

Just a few thoughts on your current listing

1. I would show a photo close up of the pattern - you can't see it from the photos you've posted - and another of the cracked teapot lid.

2. I would change 'collection preferred' to collection only, or

3. I would not offer to deliver unless it's FOC within say a 20 mile radius of where you live.

Otherwise how are you going to charge if the person lives in Devon?! You have to do the thinking in advance for your buyers...

If people don't want to collect it themselves then suggest they use a courier of THEIR choice, unless you can offer the services of one who you know to be reliable. If you do that though you're going to have to pack it all up!

4. I would be inclined to split the existing listing into 3 listings...

One for the tea service, one for the coffee service and one for the dinner service but that's just my personal viewpoint. The 'cup cake' and the Great British Bake off" have encouraged people to use tea sets again but they might not want a dinner service.

Just realised I've probably been a bit presumptious in offering you my views on selling, so do please forgive me as my enthusiasm runs away with me sometimes. Woman LOL

It happens because the silly sellers are not using the tools that Ebay give us. After two days you should open an non paying bidder case and then four days after that close the case...you get your FVF refunded....they get a strike on their account and neither of you is able to leave feedback. Even though strikes are invisible to anybody but the person on whose account they relate to........THEY REALLY DO WORK BUT ONLY PROVIDED THE SELLERS HAVE DONE THE RIGHT THING.

If I see negs on pos dots before the end of the auction then I will cancel the bid but obviously that is not always the case.

It is those silly sellers who think they are doing the right thing by leaving negative comments on positive dots that are in the wrong. To be honest - if they are on green dots it is difficult to see them anyway as they get lost.

always come to the boards if you have a problem BEFORE you take action that way you will be doing the right thing and not the wrong thing.

Remember - it takes 17 muscles to smile and 44 muscles to frown - SO KEEP SMILING 🙂

You have to select "See all feedback" and select Neg. Will then show all negative feedback

Hopefully after 11 years the OP has this sorted.

You will not find "all negative feedback" on a buyer's profile.
