Spring has sprung and the Lowes Osprey returns 2 weeks earlier than last year.

Yesterday afternoon a single female Osprey returned to the Loch of the Lowes in Perthshire. She has made the trip from Senegal and immediately made herself at home. No sign as yet of the male bird who arrived on the 22nd last year but if you are interested please check out the loch of the lowes webcam. Last year there were three chicks raised, two were fitted with satellite trackers to follow them in their amazing journey back to North west Africa. One bird is missing having ceased transmitting late last year while it's sibling remains and has been photographed by members of the Rutland Osprey team. I am hoping to get some first hand pictures of the birds fishing in a few weeks time but for now let us enjoy these marvels of nature.

Well Mr Archie, looks like there are no twitchers on the RT. By the way did you know that the RSPB was founded to counter the barbarous trade in plumes for women's hats, a fashion responsible for the destruction of many thousands of birds, by two Victorian ladies, Ms Emily Williamson and Ms Eliza Phillips (of whom Hinge and Bracket based themselves on) ?

Not many people know that.

I'm sure there are many who both enjoy feeding birds and who care about their survival, but the RT is just a place people pop in and read the odd post without responding. All part and parcel of the changing status of social media, it's a real shame that people can't be bothered to post but its a free world (Ish) Three others have acknowledged the thread and Im sure others will have a peep on the webcam to follow these wonderful birds of prey. The contrast between them and the Hen Harrier (Skydancer) is profound, persecuted and on the fringe of extinction they may well disappear unless we stop the killing. Take a good look at this beauty it may be the lastMan Sad

Just to balance things out here is the Female Hen Harrier which is completely different to the male.

I've been watching the webcam regularly over the last couple of days but haven't seen anything to report as yet.

The nest is rocking around today, must be very windy up there.

I agree it seems to be very windy however the Female has been chattering away since the male arrived and he seemed very relaxed after his long journey. I get the feeling she was getting fed up of waiting, typical female😀

Beautiful pictures, thank you.

I was watching earlier on when the female, I think, was bringing in fresh material and rearranging the nest.

Absolutely fantastic to be able to see this happening live and so addictive!

I’m hoping to see the male as well soon, haven’t seen both of them together yet.

As you can see from the photo The female has very ppronounced markings on her chest and the male looks a little smaller. She is an amazing mother and there is a picture of her last year sitting on three eggs with only her head showing through snow. I'm glad you find it interesting as nature so often is.

Great news BH, Pairs are also confirmed at Loch Garten, Rutland, Bassenthwaite and there are reports of two pairs on Kielder water. This could be the best season ever for these wonderful Raptors.

According to the blog the first egg should be laid any day now.

The first egg has been laid. Happened during the early hours and both parents have shown maturity incubating the egg.
Great stuff.
Any news from Wales BH?

Dai Dot showed up, Monty and Glesni are back and Glesni saw off Blue 24 to reclaim the nest.
