Should Faith/Religion Have Such a High Value In Our Society?

I'm not here to trample all over people's faith/beliefs but to ask if/why such beliefs should hold such high value in our society?

So where am I comming from? Well we can freely question almost anything in our society/lives; morals, political beliefs, actions and reactions, motivations, interactions, foreign policy, education, welfare, how we raise our children, law and order and so on..........

However we are positively discouraged from questioning people's faith/beliefs/religion! We are also actively encouraged to accommodate and allow for people's religious beliefs, and this is the bit that really irks me! Why is it that if something is done in the name of a religious belief/practice then we are expected to accept it with little fuss where if any other excuse were used we'd be up in arms?

We endure arguments of whether animal rights should take precedence over religion, whether saving the life of a child should take precedence over their parent's beliefs, should freedom of expression take precedence over religious sensitivities?

For me you may as well base stuff on the football team you support;

"I can't comply with the company dress code because I'm a United fan and therefore I must be allowed to wear a United shirt at work."

As far as I'm concerned this is no more ridiculous than anything done/not done in the name of religious beliefs!

So why do religious beliefs hold such high status and is it right that they do?

The reasons I gave for design are because we probably like the apes we descended from ran for the most part on all fours,.

Re: Should Faith/Religion Have Such a High Value In Our Society?

You have no idea about what knowlege I have or how much I understand about evololution and the like and I do now find your posting very disrespectful to say the least.

But your assertion that there are no transitional fossils, an assertion which is easily refuted, is a complete giveaway, you are using the 'God of the gaps' to try and prove a point.

If presented with a fossil that appears to be halfway between to other forms, you would just say there are two gaps without transition. if they are filled, now there would be four and so on.

As for design, the same god which created the human body also created the bacteria and viruses which kill it, so not much intelligence there.

Incidentally where do neanderthals fit into the creation story?

Yes a very good point & there is also Lucy the little female who goes even further back in our evolution journey, evidence of our evolution is still being found, unlike the" God" creation theory which has no credible evidence whatsoever if indeed it is evidence !.
I also find nothing rude in these posts only someone throwing their toys out of their pram because they aren't being believed or at least not putting up a good enough debate to carry any weight! " respectfully" lol.

It's interesting that when shown a succession of human fossils, creationists will point to the one at one end, say ape and at the other end say human but cannot agree on the ones in the middle.

This man could be my Uncle Charlie...A short history of the Flat Earth Society from its roots in the 1800s through its incarnation under Charles K. Johnson and finally to the modern Flat Earth Society of today.

All your so called evidences are if, buts, probables, assertions and refutes by mans ideas they just call themselves scientists, Mans ideas so you put your faith in manmade assertions Smiley Wink  scientists are only men putting across what they think.

I have no way of knowing but I think there is more to you bank than meets the eye. The contempt you have for everything JW related makes me wonder about a few things which if were the case would explain to me quite a lot. I am sorry if that seems to others like me talking in riddles but I wouldn't be surprised if it makes some kind of sense to you. Smiley Wink

All your so called evidences are if, buts, probables, assertions and refutes by mans ideas they just call themselves scientists

So you just dismiss the many thousands of fossils in the fossil record, the fact that the structure of reptiles, mammals and birds all show a similar structure pointing to a common ancestor and the evidence shown by DNA as ifs, buts, probables, assertions and refutes?

Do you actually know what the word 'Theory' means in scientific terms, for a hypothesis to become a theory it has to be tested, checked, attempts made to falsify it, there has to be empirical evidence for it.

Gravity is a theory.

The contempt you have for everything JW related makes me wonder about a few things which if were the case would explain to me quite a lot.

Possibly something to do with finding people at my door trying to convince without any evidence whatsoever, that their old book should tell me what to believe and how I should live and coming up with some pretty stupid arguments in that attempt, it's an insult to my intelligence.

There is also the fact that JWs is an organisation that still shows it protects child abusers, for that alone it is worthy of contempt.

I don't dismiss fossils, or the structures of reptiles mamals and birds, what I do dismiss is many scientists which are ( only men with the name scientist) think is what is fact.

Possibly something to do with finding people at my door trying to convince without any evidence whatsoever, that their old book should tell me what to believe and how I should live and coming up with some pretty stupid arguments in that attempt, it's an insult to my intelligence.

lol, all you have to do is ask them not to call, and they should record that wish, respect it and abide by it.  Intellligence, mmmmm. I will refrain from calling YOU a fool and dillusional, I won't resort to trying to belittle or humilliate you in anyway, I will quite happilly respect your choice that you make, choosing not to accept any proofs or facts put in front of you. Of course you will continue to say they are not facts or proofs.

You say nothing new is ever put before you, so the same from you, you come up with the same arguments all the time. We will all find out soon who is right and who is wrong. Till then I shall keep defending my faith.

it's an insult to my intelligence.

No, but you like to insult mine xx

I am sorry Bank but no child abuser is protected, you only have the reports from outside to go on there, and of course they won't be reliable because they are in opossition to God and his organisation. I or anyone else has no controll over how you choose to interpret what little information you get about such things.

You've not presented any proofs and only offered the word of Man as facts.

Where's your evidence, never mind hiding behind one-liners, let's have it.
