Should Faith/Religion Have Such a High Value In Our Society?

I'm not here to trample all over people's faith/beliefs but to ask if/why such beliefs should hold such high value in our society?

So where am I comming from? Well we can freely question almost anything in our society/lives; morals, political beliefs, actions and reactions, motivations, interactions, foreign policy, education, welfare, how we raise our children, law and order and so on..........

However we are positively discouraged from questioning people's faith/beliefs/religion! We are also actively encouraged to accommodate and allow for people's religious beliefs, and this is the bit that really irks me! Why is it that if something is done in the name of a religious belief/practice then we are expected to accept it with little fuss where if any other excuse were used we'd be up in arms?

We endure arguments of whether animal rights should take precedence over religion, whether saving the life of a child should take precedence over their parent's beliefs, should freedom of expression take precedence over religious sensitivities?

For me you may as well base stuff on the football team you support;

"I can't comply with the company dress code because I'm a United fan and therefore I must be allowed to wear a United shirt at work."

As far as I'm concerned this is no more ridiculous than anything done/not done in the name of religious beliefs!

So why do religious beliefs hold such high status and is it right that they do?

Quite so,also with modern tech it is able to determine even in the Skeletal remains the chest capacity for heart lungs etc,
Further to that if we ourselves were created & not evolved why do we still have the remains of a tail, A little joke perhaps ? lol.

Re: Should Faith/Religion Have Such a High Value In Our Society?

There is a video where, in a debate, a creationist claims that the coccyx is a necessary part of the body and not vestigital, to try prove his point he offered to pay anyone to have it removed.

His opponent pointed out that removal of the coccyx is a known medical procedure, he knew someone who had one removed and could he pass on the creationist's name and number to others awaiting the procedure as he was sure they would be only too happy to have him pay. Smiley Happy

The trouble with creationists is that time and time again, they come up with the same tired old arguments that have been refuted many times and yet they still think they have somehow scored a winning blow.

I know it's no joke Tommy the human skeleton was never designed for the punishment we put it through when we evolved to walk upright. If you consider how delicate the spine is & how easily it can be damaged.

I enjoyed that Tommy, Smiley Very Happy he needs putting in his place although it wouldn't be difficult, he uses the same technique over and over again.

How?

What have I said or shown that isn't true, or is it because I suggested that before trying to find fault it is useful to know something about that which is supposed to be faulty.

I see no reason why I should respect a person's belief in some sort of god they cannot show any evidence for anymore  than I would for another person's belief they have fairies at the bottom of their garden, both are equally as delusional.

Designed.......the operative word, well done saaasher, and designed means it has to have a designer "God the creator" it cannot just appear out of nothing at random.

Bankhaunter

Still even with all these links posted of so called evidence there is noting found fossil or otherwise to show anything in a transitional state. All that has been shown is examples of one species or another.

I do actually find (all though not hurt or harmed by) the very rude posts about people who defend the faith and the creation theory very arregant and most disrespectful, when all the time being accused of much the same.............

You have no idea about what knowlege I have or how much I understand about evololution and the like and I do now find your posting very disrespectful to say the least.

You who knows everything lol xxxxx You really don't know much at all.    xxxxx   (Respectfully)

Re: Should Faith/Religion Have Such a High Value In Our Society?

It's quite obvious by the posts made that you know little about evolution.

All this waffle about "evidence" also demonstrates a complete lack of understanding about how the Universe works and how our little corner of it will eventually end.

Now, show us hard evidence for the existence of the "being" you refer to as "god".

Before you start off saying we should show evidence that your god doesn't exist, it's not us who are wandering the globe professing all sorts of nonsense so we don't have to present any "evidence". Anyway, if you want evidence, it's all around you but there are none so blind as those who will not see.

Re: Should Faith/Religion Have Such a High Value In Our Society?

Sorry! I said designed through evolution & I refer you back to my comment on the coccyx , the remains of our tail which we all have & indeed in some it is still very pronounced. I also said we are still evolving to this day!.
