Respect for all postmen/women

I'm an active member of our local pressure group to keep our greenbelt green and stopping thousands of houses being built all over it.

To this end my hubby and I regularly walk the streets delivering updates in leaflet form to houses in the area.

We've been today and it's mostly impossble to actually get the leaflets through the letterbox due to every letterbox having a draught excluder attached that would repel a nuclear bomb.

You need super human strength and need to be a bit of a contortionist too.

The letterboxes at ground level are the most fun, You have to crouch down, holding your balance with one hand on the step and the other hand pushing inside the letterbox for dear life, yet still somehow most of mine ended up scrunched up in a ball inside, as that's as far as I could push them.

How do the poor posties fare? Especially when they're delivering those 'Do not bend' letters containing photographs?

I'll be out again tomorrow, maybe I'll take a crowbar this time......?

Take a small, short, strong stick and after opening the outer flap, hold the inner one up with it!

Try finding a piece of metal that's capable of being bent, albeit with a bit of effort, and which is strong enough to hold its shape once bent when light pressure is being applied to it.  Position it vertically and bend it back on itself so that it forms a "V" shape once bent.  Take the piece of metal with you to prop open the letterbox whilst you push the leaflet past the draught excluder, then once that's done and the leaflet has been posted remove the piece of metal and repeat as necessary with any other letterboxes that are difficult to post leaflets through.

Haha thanks for all the tips! I wonder if posties have to carry a tool around with them just to post a letter?
