Several times recently I have had to wash clothes that had previously been washed by sellers . which is admirable
but i wish they would use soap/or non smellie washing powders,.Some item seem to have been washed in the most fragrant floral powerful powders available...not good for one image.0101alan

I would hope that you washed all clothes that you got from other people you never know what they have on them..Sounds like buying dead mens shoes..

Dead men's shoes? Quite probable in my case! 😄 That's the one thing I do buy from a charity shop. Why pay £40.00 + for a pair of shoes and spend weeks trying to break them in, when for about £8.00 you can buy a perfectly good pair with virtually no wear on them? If the bloke's brown bread they're no good to him, so somebody else may as well benefit from them, including the charity shop. The only thing I always do is buy new insoles. Three years ago I bought a pair of moccasins for £1.00 off a man in a bootsale - no clever answers, please :-). It's the first thing I change into as soon as I come home. They've never been outside the house except when I go on holiday. Shirts are different. Good quality ones are a bit prices, but no matter how good it looks, I never wear it until it's been through the wash.
By the way, if you've ever wondered why you don't see the stuff you donate up for sale the next day, it's because it goes to a large distribution centre and gets farmed out from there. This is done for discretionary reasons - nobody wants to see their late husband's or wife's personal effects so close to home.

People probably just wash them with the powders and conditioners that they use on a day to day basis - I suppose unless you know somebody is allergic to washing powders many people wouldn't give it another thought. Better that it is washed and you have to re-wash, than getting dirty filthy clothes. I always re-wash clothes anyway so that it smells as I want it to smell.
Not all charity shops send to "distribution centres". I used to work in a charity shop (a nationwide one) and when clothes came into the shop they were sorted, steamed and put into the shop that they were bought into.
