Pistorius trial.

I see it's all being strung out again?

Over here, after a verdict, people are often "remanded for reports" and a date for sentencing is often a month later. Once done, there's no rambling like they're doing in SA.

It seems they're almost doing the reports live in Court?

It is interesting that they asked him for the money.

Quite simple, his premis is that he didn't mean to kill her, he's killed the woman he loved and he is as devestated at the loss and as distraught at his actions as anyone. It will be on his conscience for the remainder of his life leading to a miserable existence which is suggested will punish him more than any jail term could.

If remorse could keep people out of Jail, I know at least 10,000 criminals who would show SO much remorse; that you wouldn't think it possible to be THAT remorseful.

Quite so but I don't think Oscar's counsel are trying to show remorse, they are trying to show that he is suffering.

I've known 10,000 criminals who are good at doing the suffering bit a well.........at least to "Suffer" you've got to be ALIVE.......also, one can get over suffering..........Reeva Steenkamp won't be getting over anything.

But ... why go to the person who has killed your daughter?  Because he happens to be wealthy?  Because you reckon he'll feel guilty and therefore cough up?

They've tried to portray him as a victim but as Nel said, he's the cause of it all.

They're stringing the sentence out until Tuesday and I wonder if Masipa will ramble on for ages again instead of getting to the point?

Will Tuesday be the final judgement day and will the judge ramble on for ages before pronouncing sentence?

Oh thank God for that at least we know it was considered that he did do something wrong.

I had a feeling that he had from the start.   And I for one am very, very disappointed.

Well... that should mean 10 months in the hospital wing.

Where perhaps he can lay about crying from time to time no doubt.

Whether one agrees with the verdict or not is irrelevant - he was found guilty of the equivalent of manslaughter - the court's verdict was that he didn't intend to kill Ms Steenkamp.

5 years is well within the range of sentences handed down in this country for manslaughter.

Why say 5 yrs when you mean 10 mths though?  And why in a hospital wing?  Is he unwell?

TBH, there's lots about this that doesn't feel right.  I'd say it has all been cooked up behind the scenes to be as lenient as possible whilst appearing to be a fair compromise.  If he had served no time at all, he would likely have had trouble out there in the community.  This way gives him max protection and enables him to say "I served my time and now I'm moving on".  Reeva's family have expressed their contentment with it all.  Hmmmmm.

All the dragging-out for effect has been part of the whole charade, IMVHO.

Ms Steenkamp's family appear to consider the sentence and the outcome of the trial as just - very presumptive of any of us who weren't in court to question this.

That he caused her death is beyond dispute.

The reason, the motive, the lack of motive, his state of mind, and many other factors are what actually determined his sentence; his guilt was beyond dispute.

As for being presumptive, because we weren't actually in Court, this was the most publicised, open, and televised trial (maybe excepting O J Simpson) that was ever in the public domain, so I do not think it is presumptive of any person, who has followed the trial as it unfolded to voice their opinions.

After all isn't that what we all have been doing on this thread from the very start?

And now that the sentence has been decided, surely we can opine on the Courts decision?

We are entitled to an opinion, regardless of whether we were there or not.

If they are content, good.  But it is quite a change of heart since their reaction to his being found not guilty of murder, which they were upset about.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and to express it - doesn't stop it being a presumptive one though 🙂

I bow down to anyone who has watched the whole of the trial and not missed a single day - strikes me as a bit of a waste of time though!
