Notre Dame cathedral is totally destroyed by fire. What a tragic fate for such an iconic building.

All the Fireman concentrated on stopping the fire from reaching The iconic Bell Towers and the rest of the frontage of the Cathedral. Most of the relics from inside the Cathedral were in storage or on loan, due to the restoration work that was under way. The scaffolding erected for that restoration, seems to have protected & held up the Walls during the Fire.

It was a very sad sight, especially the collapse of the beautiful spire. The one good thing is it was not full of visitors at the time. I have since seen two reports mentioning a fireman being "slightly" injured, let's hope that is the correct version.

They've asked for architects to submit designs for a replacement spire????
I hop they don't go for a futuristic "modern" design. The one just lost was a 19th century addition so should they:-
1/ Not have a spire at all because one wasn't there originally.
2/ Replace the spire with an identical copy of the one just lost.
3/ Go for whatever design is "preferred".
As to the roof, do you think they should go for an exact copy in wood and lead of what's been lost or go for the same shape/size/look but use lighter steel beams instead of wood?
