So to beat the forgers we are to get a New shaped £1 coin, which will be much harder to forge , it is thought theres more than £40million forgeries of the present coin in circulation.
---------------------------
Now People of a certain age will be chuffed to bits, at the return of an Old favourite shape, that of the much loved Thrupenny bit, 3d or 1¼p
So what is your memory of the Thrupence
Mine is going into the Chip shop and getting a 'Thrupenny special', a Large (Glasgow) roll , not a soft bap, but a roll with substance, FULL of Chips 3d , real chips fried in Fat. mmmmmmmmmmmm

This is news to me - when is it coming out? Why waste zillions of pounds, which the country doesn't have designing a new £1.00 coin? It hasn't given the queen a very flattering image either, has it? No, I don't like it. I knew nothing about it. I must have been in hibernation.

Far too many forgeries, being discovered by the Banks, estimates say maybe 6% are duds and it's rising fast. Fred
In Singapore, People stopped accepting their large denomiation coins, because of forgeries, and the UK is nearing figures that could, bring about the same thing.

High value coins - £1.00? Somebody's taking the Michael on that one. There's apparently £40,000,000 in fake coinage still floating around. Quite a high figure. I thought it was only in the early years people were making them of lead. Years ago I had a couple of fake £1.00 coins passed off onto me - news vendors were noted for passing them off in loose change. On a cold, wet night nobody has time to look at what's being pressed into their hands. They were mainly the earlier style made of lead and sprayed gold. Of course the more knocked about they got, the more obvious it became. TECHNICALLY you're supposed to hand them into a police station, but what's the point? I did it once, and once only - the total disinterest from the person on the other side of the counter put me off for life. All you do is put them through a vending machine. Who cares? I kept a couple as mementoes. A £1.00 was worth something back then. Now it's worth only about 35p. Most difficult coin in the world to duplicate? There's no greater challenge to any crook than to come out with a statement like that! There are dedicated teams out there in opposition to the Government.

I've got a dud £1 coin.
It's a bit of a giveaway when the mark from being cut off the sprue is so obvious, also the gold rubbing off doesn't help.

THe new £1 are coming out in about 3 years time so I gues by mentioning that they'll be relicing these new coins that are going to be 12 sided & if going from what pcs I've seen so far a cross breed of £2 (two tone) & the old style threepence. Not to mention is only going to give the criminal underword that makes these forgeries more time to come out with ever more convincing fakes of these newer coins that are going to be coming
