IF you care about elephants, please sign this petition.

In spite of CITES which banned the sale of ivory 25 years ago, poaching continues at an appalling rate. 23,000 elephants were killed in Africa in 2013.
The last of the great tuskers - the largest elephant in the world with huge tusks was killed recently for his ivory. Criminal gangs have moved into the illegal wildlife trade, instead of human or drug trafficking because they see it as a high profit low risk activity and the penalties do not fit the crime.
The main markets are China and now Thailand is becoming the fastest growing market and the Thai Government are doing nothing to make progress on their 'ivory action plan' or to shut down their domestic market.
Right now CITES representatives are considering whether to sanction Thailand for its failure to stem the ivory trade. If you are appalled by the illegal ivory trade, let the CITES delegates and the UK Environment Minister know by signing.

I have signed this petition as get emails from them concerning various worldwide issues.
They're a very good and independent funded campaign group.

I signed the petition and then added the following.......
On the left <<<<< it says that 20,000 African elephants were killed for their tusks.
Not true. Maybe 3.000 were killed for their tusks and then another 17,000 were killed so that weapons could be bought for the internal civil war.
Please get your facts right.

I believe their facts are correct. What's your point and where do you get your 'facts' from?
Whether the money from the sale of the ivory is used to buy weapons or to line the pockets of criminal gangs to buy other things, elephants are killed illegally for the value of their ivory - in other words, for their tusks.
23000 were killed illegally in 2013.

Yes, have signed. Thank you.
And what a great petition. 672,000 had signed when I last looked.
If it's allowed to refer back? You and others may remember that Geographically challenged (Tim) started a similar thread called the 'The Elephants knew' now on board 10.
And Oxmounter, started a similar thread called 'Elephant Slaughter' now on board 32. That took almost two days to move along, but it did. If you or anyone interested find the time, their two threads might be worth another look too.
On oxmounter's thread board 32 note the comment at post 13. Well what compassion.......NONE!
These are all different rangers, incase some might think this is trick picture:

I agree they are very good lhasa, and they seem to have had a number of successes with a whole variety of environmental and social issues.
I know some people view petitions as pointless, but Avaaz (being global) attract a huge number of signatures. Good on 'em.

Hi Maggie
I have to chuckle at your request because I did post it on there, after I put it on here, because I know that the forums have different posters.
However, it was pulled by a moderator immediately and I received a message:
In order to reduce clutter and confusion, we have removed one of your threads as you already have one here: http://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/The-Roun ... -p/3389505
Please avoid opening up duplicate threads about the same topic.
Sheesh - those poor elephants are clutter it seems
*slaps head*

So it looks like the only way around it is that you will have to send the elephant-friendly FH&Gers who object to the 20,000 + illegal kills over here
Mad eh?

Wow! 724,000 votes on the petition now. And only 7 responded after all this time (almost 4 days) on here, after 170 views too. Oh well some it seems don't care that much.
Yes stevie, I too would be interested to see your answer? It matters on a serious thread like this IMO. Well it dosen't help not to answer a question that should be answered IMO.
And 'Maybe' as you say - isn't getting your facts right is it?
As Suzie says: ''Whether the money from the sale of ivory is used to buy weapons or to line the pockets of criminal gangs to buy other things, elephant's are killed illegally for the value of their ivory - in other words, for their tusks''. And what is your point and where do you get your 'facts' from?
Thank you, see you. Well very rarely nowadays.
