I have a dillema you may be able to help with.

Hi Guys and Guyesses,

The girl that lives next door rang our bell just now and asked, "Steve, what do I do with this?" and I must admit to not having a clue.

We live in 3 bedroomed semis with a driveway between us and underneath her front window, laid neatly on the grass, is a dead cat. What do you do with such a thing? Anybody know the rules?

She's a bit worried in case her youngest daughter finds it and has a bit of a hissy fit. Any ideas?

Cheers,

Steve

OK .... As an interim solution, I've stuck it in a box and put it in our back garden. That solves the problem of her kid finding it. But what do I do I do with it now?
Cat vindaloo, anybody?

I agree with Rose and Petal - ring the RSPCA. If the cat is chipped they will be able to trace the owners.

Cats are classed as vermin so there are no legal rules regarding what to do. I do agree that a notice in the local paper or shop window stating the details of the animal and that it has died would be of help to a poor worrying owner. I also think it should be buried quickly. It can be buried in either garden as it is up to how either neighbours generosity goes, doesn't matter which. Dustbin in bag I don't think is very hygenic. Too late for the RSPCA to get involved.

If it was a dog then that would be a different matter altogether.

I know you're only joking but don't  be so horrible, that's someone's pet there, it could belong to a child.

Do the decent thing, vets, RSPCA etc. If necessary bury it in  your garden.

Well said CB,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, someone will still be probably looking for it so even if its passed i would still do all i could to find out if its chipped and or who it belonged too. It would be awful if my cat Bubbles went missing and i never knew what happened to her,, it would really play on my mind!!!!!.

Sorry, Guys.
It was remiss of me not to follow this up but, to be honest, I forgot that I had posted on here about it.
OK, so here's what happened. George, that's the bloke who lives next door, came round to see me after he got home from work. He took the box from our garden and took it round to his. He contacted the local vets and the RSPCA but nobody had listed a cat as being missing. He told me later that a van had called and taken the cat away. (that was on Thursday, I think) He rang yesterday to see if there was an owner traced by a chip but the answer was that it wasn't chipped.
Cheers,
Steve
