How do I report a fraudster and get them removed from selling?

I bought a Welsh dresser just over a year ago because it was just what we wanted and the seller would store it free for as long as required. We were having lengthy renovations done at the time so had nowhere to put it.   We paid for it by Paypal at the time (£895).

6 weeks ago and many times since I have tried to contact him, but got no response.  I got his contact details - just his town and landline.  When I rang the no. it was transferred to someone who claimed it was his son who used to sell, but has given up and now lives with his girlfriend.  He said he would ask him to contact me ASAP - but nothing.

I have finally decided to contact the police and Action Fraud, who have no doubt that he is a fraudester despite his excellent feedback record.

I feel he should not be allowed to sell on ebay or use Paypal for his activities, but can't find a link to a real person to report this.  Telephone number would be preferable, or at least a real person at the end of an email address.

Does anyone know if there is such a link, or any other suggestion as to what I can do ( I have contacted Visa already.

Thanks for your help,

mh

  1. How to report inappropriate buying and selling - eBay

Thanks - I know it's out of time, but just think he should not be allowed to continue to sell. As Action Fraud said - all the good feedback could be from his friends.

If you can't get any joy any other way, the final solution is to take the matter through the County Court.

Small Claims Court is the final solution. When I said this to Action Fraud I ws told that they don't recommend that or any other form of contact with fraudsters! I'm between the devil and the deep blue sea

Did you make any contact with the seller during the time he stored the dresser for you? I only ask because if it were me I would want him to know that I hadn't forgotten he had the dresser and to reiterate that I was most grateful to him for storing it for me and to provide him with a timeframe for the continued storage.

Do you have email/ebay message contact with him that he confirmed he would store the dresser for you?

I think it's a bit early for Action Fraud (another government quango) to condemn him as a fraudster without hearing his side of the story. And to say the police won't be interested just because a year has gone by is just not true. If timeline was the case then many cases would not be investigated, like Jimmy Savile as an example.

There are a lot of stupid inefficient disorganised people about but it doesn't make them all fraudsters.

I would also make contact with your sellers nearest Trading Standards office and see if they have any past complaints about this seller. If they do then it will give you some back up info.

I would hazard a guess that your seller got fed up with storing the dresser for so long that he resold it when he gave up the business... because he probably lost your contact details. As I said earlier, there are a lot of stupid inefficient disorganised people about . I would also get in my car and go and find him, nothing like a bit of face to face contact!

Trading standards are good, we've been fighting with a garage for a couple of months, had to get in touch with finance company, who we've had to chase for replies to our calls, half an hour after  mail from TS tthey were on the phone to us.

I've still got his emails to prove he said he would store it, etc.

Trouble is I don't have his full address - the only contact details ebay give you when asked is town and landline. Nowhere on the transaction did it state his street and number, etc.

I also emailed him a couple of times to say that things were delayed, but got no reply but as he was still selling furniture on ebay he maybe thought it didn't need a reply.

I had to ring TS recently on another matter and what you get is workers from Citizens' Advice who are trained in Consumer rights, but I didn't find them as good as TS. They are limitied in the time they will give you and constantly rush you along and they don't really have time to listen to the full story, and I feel they give rushed advice.
