Welcome.  Its a place to chat to other members.  Like sitting round a table with your friends.

Hello Butterfly.....nice to see your post. There are a really nice bunch of folks who chat around this Round Table....and I'm sure you will be very welcome. There are all sorts of threads, about all sorts of subjects. And if you have a query or a problem...just ask...they are a very knowledgeable bunch here, and are always very helpful.

Hello Butterfly. Spread your wings and enjoy yourself here. Coffee/Tea and Cakes are around. Although as I am caring I tend to test them all first, kind of me don't you think? Woman Very Happy

Not a bad place at all if you are of the "Cissie and Ada" ilk.

Lately it's become a place where those remaining tend to agree with each other over issues and anyone putting forward an opposing view needs a fairly thick skin.

Re: Hello all readers. I am a first timer here. Not sure how this works

The Round Table is King Arthur's famed table in the Arthurian legend, around which he and his Knights congregate. As its name suggests, it has no head, implying that everyone who sits there has equal status.

Now that last bit  is still debatable on here and a bit of armour might be handy as there will be the occasional fight of wills and one less protected might get a bit bruised around the ego.

But for the rest this is quite a nice place to come for a chat. Most are harmless, so don't worry. Smiley Tongue

Re: Hello all readers. I am a first timer here. Not sure how this works

May I just intercede a second and invite UTCYA  to open a fresh thread outlining his views on the Cissy and Ada reference he makes to our newcomer. For your information things have often become inflamed on here in the past, because not of what has been said but the manner in which it has been delivered, I am extremely surprised that someoe of your obvious inteligence should struggle with this. As wih any forum peoples opinions are based upon their personal outlook on life generally which includes their choice of media, such influences are clear for any well read individual such as yourself to see. Hell will freeze over before a Daily mail reader  and a guardian reader see eye to eye on anything, and then of course you have those who are confident and those who are less so and the latter get put down so much they either flip or no longer post. In the light of this we try to accommodate all views and pespectives on here However I am not aware of any subject matter being off the table other than those deemed to be unacceptable to our hosts.

So cissy and ada are here as are wallace and grommit and statler and waldorf, Surely they are your kind of people:)

Well that explains why I am often so undecided about things and can't make up me mind.

Re: Hello all readers. I am a first timer here. Not sure how this works

The Round Table used to be a place where reasoned arguments on either side of a topic could be aired in a reasoned manner.

Hopefully it is returning to that having gone through a period when any view not in agreement with the vocal majority resulted not in counter arguments but in name calling.

I've been called 'left wing', 'right wing', 'argumentative' and lots worse for stating my view on various subjects and in all cases no logical response has been made to views put forward.  The name calling in itself is irrelevant, what is frustrating is the lack of substance in replies.  That's why I no longer post on a regular basis and quite frankly find this board very boring at the moment.

Well if that little lot hasn't put butterfly off I'll be very surprised.  Why couldn't he / she just be welcomed instead of scared off by past arguments and petty quarrels.  I'm sure he / she would have found all the carp themselves in due course without putting them off before they start.  No wonder the boards are so quiet.

Yes...where IS Butterfly? She hasn't come back....was it Harry's six guns or Creeky's dire opinion of us all that put her off? I hope not....a new member is always nice.

Re: Hello all readers. I am a first timer here. Not sure how this works

No.......I think perhaps the email I sent her informing her of our annual events and the cost to her (now due) of participation in said events, may have put her off.

I have organised these events every year since 2000 and personally I think that they are tremendous value for money.

The RT day trip to the outer Hebrides with an afternoon stop on route at my cousins caravan for toilets and refreshments (not necessarily in that order) costs only a measly £319 (Richard Branson cannot believe I can do it so cheaply !)

The Blackpool lights...............Only £287 ! ….........We go in the day time to avoid the crowds.

Afternoon tea and strawberries at the Wimbledon tennis championship (not actually in the grounds but just a couple of miles down the road at my sisters prefab ) £199 !

Watch the Grand National on a 14” portable TV from the comfort of my garden shed with a complementry packet of crisps thrown in (bring your own chair) ….............£215 !

A look at my Ebay feedback...............Just £72.54 !

The RT Chrismas Party..........All you can eat and drink between the hours of 7pm till 8.15pm £682 !

And the Piece De Resistance!........................For a paltry £492...........see the London Eye from the ground!

Perhaps when the OP reads this spectacular programme of events she will fully understand the merits of being a member of the RT and rue the fact that she never joined earlier........But it is not too late! Join now and get a 2% discount on all prices.

"Hell will freeze over before a Daily mail reader  and a guardian reader see eye to eye on anything"

This should give you an idea about people who read newspapers from Yes Prime Minister

Sir Humphrey: The only way to understand the Press is to remember that they pander to their readers' prejudices.

Jim Hacker: Don't tell me about the Press. I know exactly who reads the papers.

The Daily Mirror is read by the people who think they run the country.

The Guardian is read by people who think they ought to run the country.

The Times is read by the people who actually do run the country.

The Daily Mail is read by the wives of the people who run the country.

The Financial Times is read by people who own the country.

The Morning Star is read by people who think the country ought to be run by another country.

The Daily Telegraph is read by the people who think it is.

Sir Humphrey: Prime Minister, what about the people who read The Sun?

Bernard Woolley: Sun readers don't care who runs the country - as long as she's got big ****.
