The downside of feeding the birds is their congregation brings in the sparrowhawks

Same here Lynda, a sparrowhawk does a swoop over our back garden at least three times a day, but they all have to eat of course.  We have four feeders, two for peanuts, one for suet blocks and one for sunflower hearts. It gets very busy in the mornings. We put out mealworms and sultanas for the blackbirds on a feed table at the front too, but most of them get scavenged by wood pigeons, a real pain in the neck.

I too have multiple feeders. One for peanuts, 2 for fat balls, 3 for seed..one of which is pure sunflower hearts ... Clearly their favourite. There is a wee roofed 'house' I fill with seed and meal worms and I always scatter some seed, sultanas and mealworms for the ground feeders. Wood pigeons get short shrift here. I hang half coconuts of suet on the trees. With a hundred or so birds popping in, the sparrowhawks eat quite well. The wrens, dunnocks and robins tend to hide in a pile of logs or the heap of setts between food grabs, but even they are not always quick enough.

OK, I know it's not morning here but it's morning in Australia.

We had a heavy snowstorm around 7:30pm and it's snowing again now. I've been out to put salt down outside my garage because I've got to go out in the morning.

If it snows for long at least my salt's underneath it and it'll be easier to shift tomorrow.
