Just been to my sisters house to give my neice her present (I always let her open it on christmas Eve) spent a lot of money on a pair of Ugg boots for her (young teen) never spent this much before on her but her mum could never afford them so I wanted to treat her, I thought she'd be delighted as all girls love Uggs? and I know she's wanted a pair for a while...well she hardly took her eyes off her phone as she was unwrapping them...hardly gave them a look, only bothered to put them on her feet after I told her to try them on and check they fit, then went back to her phone...unbelievable!...wish I'd given the money to charity now...never again!...she'll be lucky to get £5.00 spent on her next year...kids are just wrong now ![]()

And possibly the failure to realise that absolutely nothing no matter how good or how bad, will ever prise a teenage girl from her phone for more than a few seconds.
If my son behaved like that, Bank I would confiscate his phone until he learned some manners.
There should never be any excuses made for rudeness and ingratitude... no matter what age the person is!

Tommy, the sheep are killed for meat, then and only then is the skin and fleece removed. You are on the OZ boards often enough not to make such a basic assumption,

Dekkers does NOT own UGG. The High Court of Australia ruled last year that the registered trade mark which Dekkers lodged is not valid and that the word UGG is a generic Australian word and cannot be registered or patented. The UGG boot is an Australian designed and original product.

I wouldn't disagree with you Lola but the sad fact is for a high proportion of the population, particularly among young females, their life is lived through their phones.
You now have the type of situation where a mother will learn that she is a grandmother from her daughter's Facebook page before she gets the news directly from the daughter.

Oh give over mr-expresso, sounds like you're jumping on the bandwagon here...
Can't someone give a present for all the RIGHT reasons?
I too would be more than a bit miffed if the ungrateful brat didn't even acknowledge the present and have the courtesy to thank the OP. It's just bad manners and there's no excuse even if she is a hormonal teenager.
"Manners Maketh Man" or woman in this case...

And what is wrong with wanting to be appreciated, especially when you spend a fortune, and lavish a gift.
Or is ingratitude, to be expected.
If I recieve a gift, I thank the giver profusely for thinking of me. A gift is not mandatory it should never be recieved in such an offhand manner.
As for sounding like she wanted to be praised, well to me it sounded only that a nice smile, a look of appreciation, and a thank-you was what was wanted, and definitely should have been proffered, at the very least..

Bandwagon? I see no bandwagon.... Just someone in need of praise for buying someone a present....
Maybe the niece was so overwhelmed by such generosity from here Aunt ... she was speechless....
