Just been to my sisters house to give my neice her present (I always let her open it on christmas Eve) spent a lot of money on a pair of Ugg boots for her (young teen) never spent this much before on her but her mum could never afford them so I wanted to treat her, I thought she'd be delighted as all girls love Uggs? and I know she's wanted a pair for a while...well she hardly took her eyes off her phone as she was unwrapping them...hardly gave them a look, only bothered to put them on her feet after I told her to try them on and check they fit, then went back to her phone...unbelievable!...wish I'd given the money to charity now...never again!...she'll be lucky to get £5.00 spent on her next year...kids are just wrong now ![]()

Maybe she has a boyfriend/girlfriend - in which case, 'love' takes precedence over everying.
Very often our gifts are more about us, the givers, than about the person we gift them too.
It's hard when we go to the trouble to look for, decide on, purchase and wrap a gift we feel someone would/should like, but they don't think that much of it.
Being bitter now is not going to help you or her, or your sister.
She didn't react as you wanted but then again why did you choose to give such an expensive gift in the first place? Was it because she really wanted them or because you really wanted her undying gratitude?
Next time, perhaps just set a limit that you feel you can afford and give only what you know the receiver will want and leave it at that.
Your niece is not on this earth to please you and your sister should not feel that you have bought something she could never afford and so should also be grateful to you.
Give because you love giving, not because you want anything out of it.

Maybe she was showing her mates on facebook the new boots via the phone camera? I tend to buy most of my "top end" items from China, much cheaper and i generally order a few extra to stick on ebay and the like, before the mother-in-law passed away, her christmas pressies always came from China, she always had a new set of brake pads to hand

I know how you feel we also visited some family members recently and the one daughter couldn't care less that we were even there all the time she texted on her phone and her mum had the same tendency needless to say we won`t be visiting them anytime soon.
I used to love having a new phone etc a few years back but never disrespected people by just ignoring them and play with my phone.

Nope!! Don't agree with you aernethril.
Good manners cost nothing. If someone has gone to the trouble to buy a present, then a thank you very much, and a show of appreciation is the very least that should be reciprocated.
Next time pinkpowderpuff, make a donation to charity in her name, and show her the appropriate paperwork.
You can then (if you like) explain that you did it because she didn't seem to appreciate the last present, so this way a good cause benefits in her name.

This might give a clue to her behaviour.
A survey found that one in 20 women adore the devices so much that they sleep in bed with them nestled up to their bodies

Hey UGG Diehards, Will You Still Wear The Sheepskin Boots NOW?
Deny it all you want, but we know you secretly have one pair of UGGs stashed in the back of your closet. Maybe you just wear them around the house, or maybe you’re someone who has no shame and rocks them in public. Hey, ifcelebs like Blake Lively and Cameron Diaz do it, they can’t be soooo bad, right?
But, if you think one of the best-selling boots of all time (if not THE best) can do no wrong with their comfy sheepskin lining, you need to get some facts. Sure the 35 Classics for 35 Years anniversary collection, and the newcustomization tool give us even more UGG options, but we’re not sure you’re going to want them after you hear this. Do you know what you’re really wearing (and funding) when you put on those Classic Tall UGGS?
According to Yahoo News, the real and not widely known reputation of UGGs is the awful treatment of sheep to provide buyers with wool. It’s horrible and inhumane. Not to be too graphic, but to give you all the info: they actually remove the skin of the sheep WITH the wool. It sounds painful just typing it. So that means the wool on the shoe is still attached to the sheep’s skin, and therefore sheep are killed to make the shoes.

Google... UGG BOOTS SCANDAL.
Even Pamela Anderson, whose claim to UGG fame is starting the whole trend, is horrified by how the boots are actually made. She tells People Magazine: “I feel so guilty for that craze being started around Baywatch days – I used to wear them with my red swimsuit to keep warm – never realizing that they were SKIN!” She’s not alone. Most people think that the boots’ wool lining is attached to a synthetic back. But, now we know that’s not true. And even buying a pair of fake UGGs isn’t the answer. Those boots use the same methods to make their shoes too. So is the UGG label and hefty price tag really worth it? What do you guys think? Will you still buy UGGs now that you know how they’re made? Let us know in the comments below!
If you’re STILL looking for a pair of UGGs, try some of these non-shearling options.
UPDATE: UGG has reached out and shared this link with us. According to Deckers, the company that owns UGG, “UGG does not use sheepskin unless it is a byproduct of the meat industry”. Read more to find out how UGG treats the sheep used for their boots.

The OP has already mentioned why she gave her the Ugg boots. (quote) 'her mum could never afford them so I wanted to treat her, I thought she'd be delighted as all girls love Uggs? and I know she's wanted a pair for a while' (unquote).
PPP. Next year show your ungrateful neice your disinterest, by giving her a packet of Haribos - unwrapped.

That article made me laugh Tommy.
Are there people around who are so daft they don't realise sheep skin is, err, actually sheep skin and don't also realise that people actually eat sheep and so they are not just killed for their skin?

Typical PETA propaganda.
Choose the worst example you can find and don't bother to mention all the work by the sheep industry that has been going on for years to end the practice with alternative methods to avoid fly strike.

It is about the giving of a gift.
And possibly the failure to realise that absolutely nothing no matter how good or how bad, will ever prise a teenage girl from her phone for more than a few seconds.
