In tonight's "The Battle For Stonehenge" (BBC2), we saw for the first time footage shot in 1985 at the "Battle of the Beanfield" when police and soldiers disguised as police went radge on the hippy New Age Travellers gathered at Stonehenge for the Solstice. ITN suppressed the footage (this was the Thatcher era remember). It is sensational and close up. It makes you wonder how our news broadcasters manipulate us.

I watched it and was absoloutly shocked by the police violance though I think i heard one person say it was the army dressed as police. Mrs thatcher was the worse prime minister this country ever had.you would have thought watching it by the violance it was some south american country not england

Considering Thatcher was elevated to take power, by the same 'Rightwingers' who were involved in the planned 1974 Coup during Wilsons Government, why would anyone be surprised
They hated the Unions (especially the Miners), who brought down the Heath Government, the Student Lefties and the radical Hippies

I note no one has asked what Radge means,
Going radge during a good pagger , cannae beat it

There was an item on the ITN news that night, showing the atrocity that had occurred, using some of the footage posted earlier.

The Travellers drove their buses onto a beanfield, probably ruining it and so the Police had a duty to protect property and livelihoods. What amazed me was that the footage was not shown, according to the programme I watched although apparently it was in part.

The £100 million "Hacking Trial" will possibly make it even easier for the authorities to control what we see, although they don't need new regulations if the failure to report the Beanfield action is an example of the Free Press in action.

"The BBC must start providing news reports, background information and intelligent, balanced analysis of the social and political shift happening amongst the UK population right now, connecting this to the impacts, justifications and morality of the long & deep austerity measures being pursued by those in power. The BBC failed to proportionally or accurately cover or analyse the swing towards the Green parties in the European election and now has failed to provide coverage or analysis of the Austerity Protest in London on Saturday
Why is this important?
The BBC is a public service with a remit to cover and analyse news, events signifying social & political shifts in the country, and not a spokesperson for power or corporate interests.
