I watched with huge disappointment the news coverage of Fred the Weatherman. For years he leapt back and forth on a giant map in the Albert Dock giving his take on the Weather. Tonight he is in jail awaiting sentence for abusing a position of trust by unlawful behaviour with young Boys. He was found guilty on two counts but acquitted on several more. I am personally unfazed by his fame and I wish people could be treated equally within the period they are charged tried and processed through the legal system. His disregard of trust as a teacher warrants a lengthy term of punishment, no question of that. What I don't like is the triumphant tone of police spokespersons who tag onto high profile cases preening their feathers whilst sitting back and ignoring the serial abuse through domestic violence of many ordinary folk. So I won't cheer the police for this campaign but I would if they were a little less selective.

So what would you have the polce do - ignore complaints they receive about celebrities - I may be wrong but I suspect that where a 'celebrity' has been involved in such activities that the victims are far more likely to come forward than when it is just John Doe who is the abuser.

It's not as though the relatively unknown aren't being brought to book as well - Petal posted a link to a 92 year old who has just been jailed.

I think I made perfectly clear my views on the crime, I also did not suggest that the police overlook celebs, I was merely critical of the triumphant attitude of spokespersons representing the Police. Yes I saw petals post and that too was thought provoking, the jailing of the 91 year old I assume was considered the only option, again I in no way support his actions but surely there are other ways of punishing people of such an advanced age.

The Police have ignored complaints about "celebrities", they ignored three previous complaints by the complainants about Talbot and the long-running saga about the Elm guest house has rumbled on for years.
