What would he have got if it wasnt caught on camera - a community sentence.

should be 10 years minimum, out in 2 years is just disgraceful.

An insult to the victim and his poor family, the law is indeed an ass.

The mother added fuel to the fire with her deliberately provocotive statement.  It was done to maximise the insult, referring to the whole incident as tomorrow'sfish and chip wrappings as though she personally couldn't give a damn.  Dear God, so help me I mean it in all sincerity, but if that was my brother, I'd beat a path to the closest solicitor to change my name by deed poll, because I would not be able to take the shame of being associated with either him or his mother.

In a word YES ! Although I did hear on the radio the sentence will be going to the appeal court to try and get it raised.

Would I be right in assuming this guy got a light sentence because he would be charged with Manslaughter rather than murder?

I believe so, Sasher.

These type of cases are usually ruled on pre-meditation and intent AFAIK.

I guess the prosecution couldn't prove that he deliberately set out to kill someone that day or that he intended to kill the poor guy when he hit him.

Saying all that, I still think the sentence is insultingly low
